    1. [MARTIN-L] James W. Martin - MO, AR, OK
    2. Jan Martin
    3. Seeking information on James W. MARTIN, born July 1856 in Arkansas (possibly Fulton County) and his wife, Annis M. (Mahaley?) MARTIN (maiden name unknown), born September 1853 in Georgia. To the Martin family they were known as Uncle Jim and Aunt Haley. Jim is the son of Rev. Harvey Zadoc MARTIN. His mother is possibly Rebecca BATES MARTIN. Parents of Annis are unknown at this time, but census records say they were both born in Georgia. In the 1880 census records, James and Annis were in Howell County, MO, in Benton Township. In the 1900 census records, there were in Izard County, AR, Guthrie Township. They have not been located in the 1900 census records. In 1920 they were living in Pottawatomie County, OK, in Macomb Township. The following children are in the census records: Harvey Z. MARTIN, born March 1880 in MO John H. MARTIN, born March 1882 in AR Joseph A. MARTIN, born April 1886 in AR Ada B. MARTIN, born October 1889 in AR Ollie V. MARTIN, born November 1891 in AR. We were told that she married a Mr. Stanley, and they lived around Mountain Home, AR for a while. The 1900 census record says that Annis was the mother of seven children, but only four where living at the time of the census. We would appreciate hearing from anyone who may be researching these names. Janice and Don Martin martindo@houston.rr.com

    3. The French Martins are probably those of Jean Martain who came to Henrico Co. Virginia in 1700 on a shipload of French Huguenots. The became Martins and moved all through the country. I wrote a book about them, now out of print. 3. Stella, when you get stuck on the S.C. Martins and hit the wall, you might check Henrico Co. Virginia and its surrounding counties. Some of Jean Martain (John Martin) grandchildren moved to S.C. after living along the James River of Virginia for awhile. I know one of them was a Matthew Martin. I know this is not much help but at least it is a clue when you get completely stuck. 2. Karen Grubaugh
    3. Long ago I posted a request for information that would lead me to a copy of the "Martins of Martin's Mill." At the time, I promised other list members to notify them when I found a copy. I am pleased to announce, I now have a copy due to the kindness of Marty Bates another Martin descendant. It has brought down my Martin brick wall! The book is about David Sanders Martin and his ancestry including some information on the Barksdale line into which John Martin married in the Abbeville/McCormick Co. SC area. The book traces this line into early VA. Email me off-list for look-ups and/or a copy on cd . . . the book is not copyrighted. If anyone knows a way and a place for me to upload the images of each page onto the internet, I would be happy to do that so many folks could benefit from it. 3. I have a James Martin born about 1786 in Va. His father is said to be Thomas Martin and the parents of Thomas are William Martin and Elizabeth Cook. James married Judith Moore on 4 Jan 1819 in Campbell Co. Va. The later moved to Butler Co. Ky. and James died there in 1838 while working on a Dam there. He drowned. James had brothers, Samuel, Thomas Jr., William and a sister Rachel. I have been told that the Martins originated in Scotland but Martin seems more like an Irish or English name to me. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. 3. Hi NANAWCR70@webtv.net, Your MARTIN/SAAP marriage interests me. I have a MARTIN/SAPP marriage in north FL in 1850, and can't find either lineage. I have Jackson SAPP 1821FL-1901FL m 1850 Nancy MARTIN 1830GA-1874FL. Nancy MARTIN was d/o John MARTIN 1788SC-1850FL and his wife Mary. I don't know John's parents, nor Mary's family, but John and Mary and family were in Jefferson Co FL in 1830 and 1840 and in Madison Co FL in 1850. They were possibly in Hall Co GA in 1820. Their older children were b GA, according to the 1850 census records. The 1788SC birth for John MARTIN comes from the 1850 Mortality Schedule of the Madison Co FL census, for he apparently died there, that year. I know very little else, and am looking for all the help I can get. Could you tell me the Jacob Martin family researchers that you referred to? 1. [MARTIN-L] Martin, William H., Martin, Melissa G.
    2. After a quick seach on rootsweb I find a William Constantine Martin married to a Martha Ann McQuown. His birthdate is listed as 1834 not 1824. This sure looks to be the same Martha Ann or Amanda McQuown married to a William C. Martin AND a Wiliam H. Martin ?????? This doesn't look right. Must admit that the children's names (also not the same) look better under William C. to match the maternal name of McQuown as one has that name as a middle name. Anybody know which William Martha really married? If she isn't the wife of William Hawkins Martin, that explains why Melissa G. does not appear as his daughter. I can see those bricks going up again. grrrr Can anyone shed any light on William Hawkins Martin born 1823 or 24 in Tennessee. Daughter, Melissa G. Martin Overstreet b. 1847 Missouri? Thanks! 2. I just loooove it when those brick walls come down! Received word from national archives today: Melissa G. Martin b. 1847 m. Charles Thaddeus Overstreet is definitely the daughter of William Hawkins Martin b. 1823-1824.Veteran of Civil War E. Company,11th Regiment Missouri Volunteer State Militia. This is the William H. Martin I have been looking for! Several documents in her hand and his detailing where they lived and when. Mostly in Missouri (Putnam Co., Sullivan Co. Wintersville) and Adams Co. Illinois. One document signed by John Thomas Overstreet, brother of Charles Thaddeus Overstreet and husband of Alice Marinda Martin. (The other brick wall!) Trying to find out if Alice and Melissa were sisters. I have in my files a William H. Martin born 5/28/1823 married to a Martha Amanda Mc Quown. (Possibly the mother of my Alice Miranda?) He was the son of Lewis Hiram Martin Sr. b 12/17/1791 Logan Kentucky. Lewis Hiram Martin was the son of John Martin and Isabella Martin. Can anyone confirm that these two Williams are the same? My records show William and Martha Amanda Martin had the following children. Lewis L. Henry E James S. Minerva A Mary E Charles T Where does Melissa G or Alice fit in? Previous marriage? or no connection? Wrong William H.? Any ideas? Glad to share any info for those who are interested. Margaret
