Hi again! I would love to have a picture of Laura. Do you have a scanner? I would suggest the US mail, but I would feel terrible if it were to get lost. I would gladly pay for the cost of a copy if you think that would be best. Let me know what you think. Russ
Hi Eldora! Your mail is equally fast. I received your info yesterday; it is exactly what i was looking for. I have so little information on the families of Stratton's siblings. I was also interested in the Wait connection. In another of my maternal lines (Cannon), I go back to a Return Wait of Plymouth, Mass. Well, I will continue my searching. If I find any additional info, I will let you know. Russ
Hi Martin Researchers, Awhile back there was a barrage of Irish MARTIN postings and I deleted them all thinking there's no way my MARTINs came from Ireland. Well, I received a document stating that my ancestor, William MARTIN, was one of the Galway Bay MARTINs. William MARTIN was born about 1820 and married a Sarah or Sally in Ireland. They came to Poland, OH and had the following children: Martha, James Johnson and Mary. They are then found in New Castle, PA. I am looking for William's parents and Sarah's maiden name. Thank You! Patty
seek info on the Karl/Carl Martin family from Providence are or in Southbridge Mass area in early 1944. A Wayne Martin was married to an Irene Shabott/Chabott on 9.23.1944. She was my grandmother. They divorced and she married Ernest Bryant, but I am curious about Mr. Martin. How long did they know each other before marrying, did he know her parents, does he have any pictures of her or her parents? I know that Carl had a grandchild? named Gale (i think a girl). And the Martin family met my grandmother's children from Ernest sometime in the early 60's. Anxious to know if anyone connects. Kim Bates

Took a quick look at a copy of "Abstracts of Georgia: Colonial Bk J: 1755-1762, compiled by George Fuller Walker, 1978 and found a little Martin info: from pages 116-117 GRANTOR: Samuel Thomson, master of the ship called the Charming Martha, "now riding at anchor in the River Midway and ...bound for London [England]." OCCUPATION: ship master RESIDENCE: X GRANTEE: Clement Martin OCCUPATION: X RESIDENCE: X KIND OF INSTRUMENT: receipt DATE WRITTEN: March 15, 1757 PLACE WRITTEN: Savannah PAYMENT: X DESCRIPTION: Thomson acknowledges that Martin has shipped three barrels of indigo on the Charming Martha. Russ, I can hardly wait to get the disk. Again, thank you. In about 1865, Laura's husband, Jared, took a trip by rail from Troy, NY, to the west. The purpose of the trip apparently was to visit relatives. I have a diary he kept of his travels. He visited his brother, Barton WAIT who lived in Beaver Dam, WI. That is really not very far from Stoughton. Do you suppose there is a connection. I will have to read the diary again to see what I can come up with. Unfortunately, it is stored at present and I will not have access to it until May. Eldora On Thu, 14 Feb 2002 08:34:28 EST RHansonRet@aol.com writes: > Hi Eldora! Hi Eldora! Hopefully, I'll get a FTW disk mailed out to you today. I'd love to get any thing involving Laura that you are willing to share. When you get my disk, you will see that it involves a large diversity of Martins, all of which start in Woodbury, CT. Send anything that you think might be appropriate. It doesn't have to be a disk; I can work from paper. One can never know what info might prove to be of interest. For example, Laura's brother. Calvin, is buried in my hometown of Stoughton, WI. Why he moved "out west" to be with his uncle Stratton ( my g-g-grandfather ) has always intrigued me. Regards, Russ Hanson Russell Hanson 5260 Wild Cinnamon Drive Melbourne, Florida, 32940-1426
I have several papers that were the writings of George Martin. He states that he was born Nov. 9, 1815. He lists some of his children, Martha born Jan 17, 1840. Margaret, July 27, 1842 and others (Thomas, Elizabeth, George,) I have found on Ancestry. com a Family file that lists these children and the dates are very close. This file says that George married a Mary Gee( daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Walters Gee). Many of the papers are of Purchases that people had made from him (corn, Material, boots etc.) George was born in Virginia but ended up in the Greenup and Carter County, Kentucky area. In my data base I have a Joseph Ann Martin born December 28, 1823 in Carter County Kentucky that married Nancy Baker. These papers were found in a old locker that belonged to Josephs grand daughter. I cannot seem to find the link. If you can help me in any way or link to this George Martin please contact me. Any help would be appreciated. sbrown@dragg.net
