    1. RE: [MARTIN-L] Thos. Herbert MARTIN, born c. 1896 Ark.
    2. Brenda Hawkins
    3. Preliminary Info: In 1920, Demun, Randolph Co., AR there is a Herbert Martin, b. about 1898 in AR, living by himself and listed as a Clerk in a Drug Store. There are several other Martins also in Demun, but only two are the right age to be his parents - Patrick (born in Ireland) and Annie (widowed). Pat and Annie are not a couple - they are separate households. Backtracking on Patrick and Annie in 1910 shows they are also in Demun in that year. Patrick has no son named Thomas or Herbert. But Annie (widowed in this year, too) does have a Herbert Martin, age 14, in her household who is listed as a nephew. There is also a Eula with them, age 16, listed as niece. Herbert and Eula are probably siblings. More later. Brenda See Brenda's Original Art and Photos! My grandmother was MARIE LUCILLE GREER, b. 1903 Dexter, MO. The 1920 census shows her living with her parents in Pocohontas, Ark. which is most likely where they met. My only record of Thomas is on my mother's (PATRICIA MARIE MARTIN, b. 1922 Los Angeles, CA) birth certificate where it gives his address, age (26) and profession (druggist.) Marie is shown on the 1930 Tenn. census married to someone else. I would so much appreciate someone's help as I've reached the "brick wall" on him. Kathleen

    3. Dear Michael, Yes, the 1850 census is incorrect on Andrew's wife, Elizabeth, being age 10. Thank you for the leads! And the marriage to Elizabeth Beahey is one we've not seen before. (By "we", my second cousin and I have been emailing/researching this branch together.) In fact, I wasn't having much luck in Maryland -- probably just not knowing where to look. How did you find that, Michael? Wow! I was wondering why the older children were placed second in the census. My grandmother showed only four children on her family group records: James Henry, Samuel, Jack and Margaret. Jack's son, ended up living very close to where my grandparents lived in CA. My grandmother had been corresponding with a descendent of Margaret. When I first saw the 1850 census, I got pretty excited knowing there were more children. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 3. Your Andrew is listed in the 1850 Census as follows: 1850 Jackson Township, Morgan County, Ohio 870/880 Andrew Martin, 43, m, farmer, b Md Elizabeth, 10, f, b Md James, 8, m, b Ohio Samuel, 5, m, b Ohio Andrew, 4, m, b Ohio Charles W., 1, m, b Ohio Sarah, 18, f, b Ohio Margaret, 13, f, b Ohio William, 15, m, b Ohio Elizabeth, 10, f, b Ohio The above would seemingly indicate that Andrew's wife was deceased if age is correct. Image definitely shown as age 10. Also, children shown here may be from two different mothers because of the way they are listed. The 1860 Census is as follows: 1860 Jackson Township, Noble County, Ohio 433/415 Andrew Martin, 53, m, farmer, 4000, 500, b Md Elizabeth, 53, f, domestic, b Md James K., 18, m, farmer, b Ohio Samuel, 17, m, farmer, b Ohio Andrew J., 14, m, b Ohio There is a recording of a marriage of Andrew Martin to Eliza J. Beahey on 25 November 1834 in Frederick County, Maryland.
