    3. Several days ago I invited everyone that had Martins in the Caldwell, Surry, Wilkes and Cherokee Counties of North Carolina to visit my web site at: www.jmartinfamily.com. I would like to add that, as part of my research, I also have "All the Martins I found in the KY, NC and TN 1850 Census Records". There are many additions to what is presented in the published indexes for the Martins listed. When I found my GGrandfather was not in the Index but was actually in the film, I decided to ignore the index and scan every page. I did not limit the Martins found in those Census Records to my direct family, but included "Every" Martin that I found. Enjoy my site. Jon Martin

    3. Hello Jon, I visited your website, and I saw the 1850 census for Rockingham Co NC. My ancestors are listed as: 621- 631 William M. Martin b. 1826 NC, Farmer his wife: Mary M. (Young) b. 1825 NC H. E. (daughter) b. 1848 NC George Wesley (son) b. 1850 NC This above family traveled about 1853 to Henderson Co TN, near Lexington, and stayed there until 1870 when William died. Then about 1878 the widow and children moved to Navarro Co TX permanently. Out in Navarro Co TX, is found James Nathaniel Martin b. about 1836 NC. He is definately related to my Martin family, but need to find how. I believe he is nephew of my William M. Martin. In the 1850 census at Rockingham Co., NC there is a J.N. Martin 13 yrs old, s/o Allen Martin and Casey. This looks like a very good possiblity. That would make Allen Martin b. 1814 NC the older brother of William M. Martin b. 1826 NC. There is another possible match, a James Martin, also 13 yrs old, s/o Bagley Martin. I am also interested in Bailey Martin, 30 yrs old, married to Cynthia 27, kids are: Francis and Sarah. The reason I am interested in Baily, is there is a very long tradition of the Martin families in Reidsville, Rockingham Co NC, of using the name Bailey. I have long wondered if my Martin family was tied to Reidsville, NC. Please write back with connections and comments, Best regards, Lilly Martin, d/o Joe, s/o Joe, s/o Joe, s/o William M. Martin b. 1826 NC. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jon Martin" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 13, 2005 12:46 AM Subject: [MARTIN-L] Web Site Update > If you are interested in Martins from Surry, Wilkes, Cherokee and Caldwell Coutines, NC you may find some information on my site. > > I have finally updated my site with all the will transcriptions that I have been working on. 2. Jon, I looked at your site and did not find my Martins from Caldwell and Burke cos. My gr-grandmother is Eveline Martin d/o McCama or McCamey Martin and Anna Spencer. She married John Monroe Wilson also of Caldwell co. I have found McCamey, Abraham and I believe their father Jesse in the 1850 and 1860 census living in Caldwell co in the Lovelady township. If I have missed something on your site I would appreciate you letting me know, or if you have any information on this family that would help too. Thanks in advance. Paul Vaughn

    1. 2 different JAMES Martins', 1808 & 1833
    2. SLH
    3. I am hoping that someone knows the parents of these 2 James'. I am still looking for parental info on Wm. Waddell Martin, born 1828-1829 in Anderson SC. Letters to/from him during and after the War of Northern Aggression there is mention of a James. There are also letters from a sister in law, Martha and Grace. In the 1850 census for Lawrence AL. there is a listing for a James Martin, age 42,his wife Gracina or Grace, born in NC age 39, and their children. The children are Malinda 18, Mary 16, Nathaniel 14, Elizabeth 11, Lucinda 9, Viana 5, and Lucy 3. All the children are marked as being born in LA.. at least that is how I read the handwriting. Could this family be related? Parents of Wm.? He would have been the eldest son. The 1860 census for the Rome area of Floyd Co, Georgia shows another Martin family. I believe this to be the sibling of Wm. Martin. J. C. Martin born in NC, age 27, his wife Martha H., 27, born SC, children are G. W. age 7, GA---A. J. 4, GA---H.C. 3 GA.. Only initials are given for this family as well as several other families. Any of these names ring any bells? Thanks in advance Sandy Hamilton HAMILTON MARTIN DAVES NELSON QUEEN DALRYMPLE CRAIG just to name a few..

    1. Thos. Herbert MARTIN, born c. 1896 Ark.
    2. I am posting my annual request for any information on my grandfather, Thomas Herbert Martin, b. around 1896 in Ark. My grandmother was MARIE LUCILLE GREER, b. 1903 Dexter, MO. The 1920 census shows her living with her parents in Pocohontas, Ark. which is most likely where they met. My only record of Thomas is on my mother's (PATRICIA MARIE MARTIN, b. 1922 Los Angeles, CA) birth certificate where it gives his address, age (26) and profession (druggist.) Marie is shown on the 1930 Tenn. census married to someone else. I would so much appreciate someone's help as I've reached the "brick wall" on him. Kathleen

    1. RE: [MARTIN-L] Thos. Herbert MARTIN, born c. 1896 Ark.
    2. Brenda Hawkins
    3. More Info: Your Thomas Herbert Martin was born August 1895, probably in Denum or Current River, Randolph Co., AR. His father was James Martin, b. Feb 1863, probably in Randolph Co., AR. James' wife (and Thomas' mother) was a daughter of Fred Hill and Martha Ann Reynolds, but unfortunately, she was deceased by 1900 and I don't know which daughter. The widowed James and his two children, Thomas H. and Eula E. (b. Mar 1894) are living with Fred and Martha Hill in 1900 in Randolph Co., AR. Fred Hill had 4 kids - 3 daughters and 1 son, and only Kate is still in the home in that year. Martha Hill reports having 4 children but only 3 are living in that year, so it is probably James Martin's wife who has died. The other two known daughters are Bridget and Roxie. I don't know their dobs so can't guess which one was James' wife. I don't find a marriage record anywhere that matches. Here's a little info on Fred Hill and Martha Reynolds: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:277855 2&id=I559255668 Your James Martin is the son of James Martin, b. about 1807 in Virginia and Ellen C. Unknown. In 1850, James is married to Ellen C. Unknown, b. about 1828-1830 in Missouri, but Ellen is too young to be the mother of the two oldest kids in the home. I don't find a marriage record for this James to any wife whose name matches or where the dates seem to line up with the ages of the kids. This James might be the son of a James who was also in Randolph in that year, born about 1778 in VA. An LDS record for this man lists a wife as Isabell or Elizabeth Melton, but she is reported born in 1817, so even if this James is the right man, Isabell couldn't be the mother of the son James, b. 1807. In 1850 and 1860, James and Ellen are in Randolph Co., AR. By 1870, Ellen is widowed, but still in Randolph. Children of James, b. 1807 are: James F., 1836 AR (from first wife) Joseph C., 1838 AR (from first wife) Ellen J., 1845 AR (dau of Ellen as are all others) Henry, 1849 AR Thomas P., 1847 AR (not listed in 1850) Mary A., 1852 AR Andrew W., 1854 AR William, 1856 AR Robert, 1859 AR John T., 1861 AR James, 1863 AR (Yes, another James). The Annie who your Thomas Herbert was living with in 1910, was the wife of Joseph Martin. Ellen's maiden name might be Wight or Wright or Brown. In 1850, there are two young females (ages 19 and 24) in the home with Ellen and James, and both are born in Missouri - same as Ellen. The younger one is listed as a Wight and the older one as a Brown. These women might be sisters to Ellen but you can't tell on that record if one of them is widowed or married. Hope this helps!! Merry Christmas!!! Brenda See Brenda's Original Art and Photos!
