I am searching for the parents, siblings and any related lines to Samuel Houston MARTIN b. bet 1814/1820. I have no birth record and the census is inconsistent. According to the census he was born in Tennessee and his father was b. in NC and his mother in TN. On Nov 2 1839 in White Co TN, he married Rebecca BRYANT, dau. of James BRYANT and Jane GENTRY, The 1840 census for White Co has a Hastin/Hustin MARTIN with 1 female in the HH. Both are of the right age to be Samuel and Rebecca Bryant MARTIN. Plus they are in the same neighborhood of other family lines. IN 1850 they are in Jackson Co TN. In 1860 they are in Putnam CO TN, where they lived the rest of their lives. Samuel died in 1891 and Rebecca after 1900 but before 1910. I do not know for sure where they are buried. There are no headstones with their names on it. Julia, don't be too lonely...I have never found any Martin researcher looking for my Jacob Martin, either. Mine was supposed to be born abt 1788, wife Peggy Sapp.Children were born in SC in 1814/1825/ They had two sons I know of Jacob, (my gggrandfather, and Henry Sapp Martin that married Nancy Busby n Shelby Co.Al. Several other children, possible a Margaret, and a Jackson, or John Jack Martin. If you haven't looked in Shelby County Al in 1840 census, there is another Jacob Martin...with a large family, also in 1850. one dau I think Minerva, I havent looked in a long time.I found a Jackson Martin, married Sarah Ann Sawyer in Talladega Al in1841/3. This age and location is right to be a brother to my gggrandfather...I can't find a descendant there either...YET. Don't give up, keep shaking those Martin Trees...Stella
My ancestor, as far as I can figure out, is Ralph Martin who married Elizabeth C. Burton. Their daughter, Minerva "Minnie", was with them in 1860 in Wilson Co, TN. Ralph disappeared after that, and in 1870 Minerva "Minnie", was with an Edward Martin and his family in a different county, can't find that at this moment. Do you think Edward and Ralph were brothers, or? Thomas left will dated Jan. 5, 1826 son of Thomas named John C. Martin Newphews Thomas s or L Martin and Washington B. Martin Jacob also had a son named Jacob Martin who had a son Named John A. Martin I found this info. in a book in the Library. I did not have time to copy the whole article and just copied this much down. I can go back if you need to know more. Barbara
Hello all, Jacob Martin is listed in the Census of 1830 in Wilson Co., TN with 6 sons and 6 daughters. By 1850, Jacob and wife Mary Wallace are in Carroll Co., TN, but only one son, James and one daughter, Jane are in the household. Therefore, I do not know all the names of their children. In my 10 years of research, I have never met another person who is descended from or who is researching this Martin family. Those 6 sons, must have descendants named Martin. One son, William C. Martin, lived and died in Rutherford Co., TN and has descendants. His line has been DNA tested, but I would like to test other males from other sons. Money is available for the DNA test of any proven male descendant from any son, except William C. Martin. The son, John J. Martin, also, died in Rutherford Co., TN, but he had no sons. If anyone is related to, or knows of any Martin who is from this family, please, put me in contact with them. Their ancestors may have lived in Wilson or Carroll Co., TN. Thanks for any and all help in this matter. Julia French Wood
My ancestor is William M. Martin b. 1826 NC, married to Mary M. Young b. 1825 NC. Mary M. Young is the sister of Bassalia J. Young. Both the Martin family and the Young family left Rockingham Co NC to settle in Henderson Co TN. The 1850 census of Henderson Co TN, district 7, page 164 shows 2 YOUNG families listed. Since both of those families are also buried at the same Cemetery, that of the Caffey Cemetery in Henderson Co TN, I would assume that the 2 families are related. Because the 1850 census, which is online and Free access, is listed by Alphabetical order, and not family order, I will have to do some guesswork to split the 2 families into correct grouping. Family #1: Barzilla, or Barzella, aka Bassalia J. or aka B. J. Young. b. 1-18-1815 NC d. 1-7-1894 He is married to Druzilla H. Young b. 6-1-1817 NC d. 10-3-1887 Both Buried at Caffey Cem. Joseph M. Young b. 1846 TN d. 11-10-1865 (Caffey Cem.) Robert C. Young b. 1840 TN John Watson Young b. 11-1-1843 d. 3-31-1922, m. Judy b. 8-23-1844 , buried at Caffey Cemetery, with 2 infants. Family #2: John S. Young b. 1803 NC d. 12-25-1864 (Caffey Cem.) Margaret Young b. 1812 NC John D. Young b. 2-28-1832 TN d. 7-24-1857 (Caffey Cemetery) Mary E. Young b. 1839 TN Joseph Young b. 1840 TN Alfred P. Young b. 1844 TN James Young b.1845 TN Sarah E. Young b. 1846 TN Dillen A. Young b. 1848 TN G. A. Young b. 1849 TN (female) The following names are either kids of John S. Young, or kids of Bassalia J. Young. these names and birth dates come from the 1850 census at Henderson Co TN: Emily J. Young b. 1836 TN Malinda Young b. 1842 TN Zylpha Young b. 1834 TN William Young b. 1832 NC If someone could please help me to know which of these kids belong to John and which belong to B.J. Please note the date of 1832, I believe this must signal the move from Rockingham Co NC to Henderson Co TN. My ancestor William M. Martin died in Henderson Co TN in 1870, and then his wife and kids moved by 1878 to Navarro Co TX. They moved to Henderson Co TN about 1853. The children of William M. Martin and Mary M. Young were: Harriet, Mary Caroline, Bailey, Samson/Ramson, Joseph Allen, William B., Isabella, Druzilla, and George Wesley Martin. When William M. Martin died in 1870 B.J. Young was appointed guardian of the minor children. My ancestor is Joseph Allen Martin b. 1857 TN, married Nancy Elizabeth Doolen of Navarro Co TX, they settled at Sunset, Montague Co TX and my grandfather was their son Joseph Alfred Martin b. 1899 Sunset. TX. He worked for the Lone Star Gas Co of TX for 43 yrs. Would like to hear from any researchers of this family line. Best regards, Lilly Martin
My earliest ancestor is William M. Martin b. 1826 NC, married in 1848 to Mary M. Young in Rockingham Co NC. The 1850 census shows them in Rockingham Co NC. About 1853 they moved to Henderson Co TN and stayed there until William M. Martin died there in 1870. About 1878 the widow Mary M. Martin b. 1825 NC, and her children moved permanently to Navarro Co TX. Mary M. Young b. 1825 NC was sister of B. J. Young who married Druzilla. B.J. Young and his wife Druzilla also moved from NC to Henderson Co TN, and are buried in the CAFFEY Cemetery there. I have noticed that in Rockingham Co NC that there is a marriage record between Andrew Martin and a Margaret CAFFEY. Is the CAFFEY Cemetry in TN connected to the Caffey family of NC? If so, does this tie to my Martin family line? Another similar question: in the community of Riedsville, Rockingham Co NC there is a Bailey Martin, who married Isabell Herron 1-12-1818, and also Sarah Corum 12-24-1824. My own ancestor William M. Martin b. 1826 NC named one of his sons BAILEY Martin. What does this mean?? William also named one of his daughters Isabell Martin. If anyone is researching any of these names please let me know. Best regards, Lilly Martin, d/o Joe b. OK, s/o Joe b. TX, s/o Joe b. TN, s/o William M. Martin b. 1826 NC.
In the 1850 census John Young had these c hildren William, John, zypha, Emily, Joseph, Malinda, Alfred, James, Sarah, and Dillen Bassalia young had these children Mary, Robert C, John W, Joseph Hope this helps----------james

The Martin DNA Project is here: http://www.martindna.com/ The testing should be explained there. They use a cheek cell sample from a male by the surname of Martin (or which ever line you are researching). The Y-DNA is passed from father to son, to son, forever, so, your earliest Martin ancestor will have the exact same DNA as a living Martin male descendant. All males of the same line will have the same DNA so a match means that you are from the same line. Julia In a message dated 3/5/2005 11:18:20 P.M. Knox Martin The South is a land that has known sorrows; it is a land that has broken the ashen crust and moistened it with tears; a land scarred and riven by the plowshare of war and billowed with the graves of her dead; but a land of legend, a land of song, a land of hallowed and heroic memories. To that land every drop of my blood, every fiber of my being, every pulsation of my heart, is consecrated forever. I was born of her womb; I was nurtured at her breast; and when my last hour shall come, I pray God that I may be pillowed upon her bosom and rocked to sleep within her tender encircling arms.
