In the 1850 census of Hamilton Co., TN there are two listings for Surletha Martin. Now that is not a name we find just every day. My great grandmother, Surletha Ann Martin b. 1828 is listed in the household of Dabney Martin her brother on page477 of Dist. 27. On page 458 in Dist. 27 there is a Fanua Martin b. 1800 and a Serletha Martin b. 1828. Does any one have any info. regarding Fanua and Serletha? Just any suggestions would be helpful. For those that are interested in reading farther: The 1850 Census re: my great grandmother has a strange pattern. Her father and mother were Tavner and Cynthia Martin. For some reason the census taker listed Tavner and Cynthia in one household and their children in the next one. One of those strange flukes of the census. There are several descendants of Tavner and Cynthia that are searching for Tavner's parents. The two had 11 children and most of them were named after Cynthia's family (the Leagues). Surletha is not a League name and we are hoping it is a clue as to Tavner's family. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated by all of us who are stuck as to Tavner's parents. I've "rescued" an old marriage certificate belonging to Edward MUNROE of Beverly, Massachusetts and his bride Sarah A. MARTIN also of Beverly, MA. The couple was married on the 27th of November 1867 in Manchester, MA. Edward MUNROE is said to be the son of Edward MUNROE and Betsy JACOBS, 39 years old at the time of the marriage, his 2nd. Edward lists his place of birth as Danvers, MA and his occupation as Shoemaker. Sarah A. MARTIN is the daughter of Geo P. MARTIN and Sally L. CARTER, age 36 at the time of the marriage, her 1st. Sarah lists her place of birth as Manchester, MA. Attached to the certificate is an obituary for Edward MUNROE listing him as the identical twin brother of James MUNROE. It is not dated, however, it notes that he was the working as the janitor at the Briscoe School at the time of his death and was Sexton of St. Peter's Church. Based on limited research I did find evidence of Edward MUNROE b. 7 Aug 1828 at Beverly, MA, though I did not find anything more on the couple or their families. I'm hoping to locate someone from their family so that this wonderful piece of family history can be restored to the family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
My James Houston MARTIN stayed in TN all his life except, if the census is to be believed, he went to AR sometime between 1850 and 1860. One of the children Johial was born in AR in 1854/55 but he was in TN in the 1850 and 1860 census. His son James Washington Martin fought for the Union. James stayed in TN too. -------Original Message------- From: [email protected] Date: 03/19/05 17:25:04 To: [email protected] Subject: [MARTIN-L] Civil war pension After the Civil War a lot of soilders went to fl. to live. Hi I am new to this list. I am looking for parents and siblings of Samuel Houston MARTIN b. abt. 1814 in TN. According to the 1880 census his father was from NC and his mother from TN. He was marr. on Nov 2 1839 to Rebecca Bryant in White Co TN. Rebecca is the dau of James BRYANT and Jane GENTRY. He (I think) was Hustin MARTIN in the 1840 census of White Co TN. It was the correct age for he and Rebecca and no children listed. Their first child was Amanda b. in 1841. In 1850, they were listed in the Jackson Co TN census. In 1850 they were listed in the Putnam Co TN census. Samuel d. in 1891 in Putnam Co and Rebecca d. bet. 1900 & 1910 in Putnam Co. Rebecca and Samuel's ages changed with every census. They were born somewhere between 1812 and 1824. I think they were both born 1814. Their children were James Washington, John Vance, Jesse Lafayette, Johial/Jahial, Amanda C, Martha A, Mary Sophronia, Rebecca, Millie Frances, Manner/Minerva Jane. I would appreciate any help anyone has to offer. Thank you Peggy -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. The point no one is saying is "so what"? I have all the books and a database of 80,000 + names in chelsea revere and winthrop. I research denning dever cogan carroll mchugh malone. So you find a denning. lets say 12 nov 1853 In search of Patrick DENNING from Pullboy St.,Navan [Co.Meath] when last heard from [3 yrs ago] was in Plattsburg ,N.Y. Any information will be thankfully recieved by by his cousin Patrick DENNING ,Oswego,N.Y.- and you are looking for a patrick "WOW I FOUND MY HIT" even the new poster on George W. IN N.Y. today could get excited about this . but what does it say? that the patrick who was in meath is thought to have been in Plattsburg 3 yrs ago. Which patrick? I have 31 just in my database? The best story to get this point across is a women wrote the clerk of chelsea . asking for the birth certificate for James Denning born between 1878 and 1883.The clerk wrote back which one we have seven of them.I have 3000 mass dennings at least 2200 are from chelsea. And you find a Patrick or a James who is being looked for by his brother john and sisters margaret catherine and mary. Good luck every pat or james has a brother john and sisters margaret catherine and mary. just be careful before you jump on something that looks like your answer to a prayer Btw i searched denning and didnt get the hits i knew were there . the search engine missed them Jim Denning -Ygenealogist-MTgenealogist using Genetics to connect Chelsea,Ma.-Woburn,Ma.-denning-dennen-danin-dinan-dinihey-denningston-dinning- carlon-carroll-dever-cogan-malone-heslin-piscopo-mazzola-martini-farrell-mchug h-farley-grimes-lynch-doherty-SanDanto,Ita-Adargh,longford-Revere,Ma-Wintrop,M a.- and ever an growing list

If you are not satisfied or feel something was not quite right with your dealings with Kathy, or the findings she provided to you, then Cancel that second check now. Don't walk, but run to the telephone, computer or your bank, cancel that check now. Try contacting her and see if she replies. Bob, I said that I would let you know if I heard from Kathy. I have. I hope that she has individually contacted you also and your situation has been resolved to your satisfaction. My situation is not satisfactory. As of today, we have terminated our agreement and it is to be seen if I will indeed receive a refund. She was not honest with me on a number of things. So, I wanted to let you know and give you a headsup on her questionable integrity. Hopefully you will be spared what I have been put through all week. I wish you a better result. Barbara, Thank you for the reply you sent to me (below). I wanted to get back to you with how it turned out with Kathy. Sad to say, as of today, she has demonstrated unethical practices, demeanor, and frankly, to be an outright lier. I had hoped there would have been a way she and I could have worked out a resolution and she did offer a very reasonable one. However, upon my accepting her resolution, she emailed me back with a completely different story than she reported to me in February on the status of my pension file. She said she will be refunding my money, but that is to be seen. I just wanted you to know that it has washed out that she did not just lie to me but had no intention of ever sending me the file or refunding my money or contacting me again for that matter. Don't cancel that check as it will cost you $25.00. I will forward all your complaints to the proper person and I thing that you will hear from Kathy and get your money back. All of you who sent money and haven't heard from Kathy in the past two days, let me know, then wait for a few days and if you haven't heard from Kathy, let me know again. I for one have sent several emails to Kathy Wolfe and have received no response. I am gathering copies of my cancelled check and emails exchanged with her in preparation for filing a complaint. Since the amounts are rather small I would suggest we all file with the same Federal Agency at about the same time. With the load the U.S. Attorney's office must be carrying at this time, I believe they would forward the investigation to the US Postal Inspector's Office in DC. I would like to hear from others in this regard. I have had good results with the Postal Service in the past. There is no reason we should stand by and be a party to this type of situation even if the individual amounts are rather small. John Kulbeth
Kathy cashed my first small check, then sent me an email saying her research was finished and I was to send her the rest of the amount she had requested. She hasn't cashed the second check yet. Hello All, This is to report that Kathy Wolfe has been located and she should be contacting all persons who sent money to her for the NARA Research that she offered. If you do not hear from her, or you do not receive a satisfactory resolution to your contract with her, please, let me know. You may wish to demand the return of your money as she says that she will not be able to do the research for several weeks. Julia
