Good morning list, In researching my Martin line from Wayne and Pulaski Counties, Kentucky, I have my line traced back to John Martin Sr. with the help of other researchers Information that I have been given by other researchers is that his full name was John William Martin. His father is supposed to be Samuel Martin and his grandparents may be Benjamin Martin Sr. and Elizabeth Lindsey. I have my own line as Lola Mae Martin (grandmother, b 1902 Pulaski Co., Ky), Hiram K. Martin (b 1870 Pulaski), William Perry Martin (b 1842 Wayne Co., Ky), William (b 1817 Tenn?), John Shelby Martin (b 1780-1785 Virginia), John William Martin (b 1755-1760 Franklin Co., Va). Some of this informatin is in the book "A UNIQUE FAMILY" written by W. P. Martin of Eubank, Ky. This W. P. (William Perry) Martin (b 1858) is the nephew of my William Perry Martin. I do not have a copy of the book (darn it). The information that I was given is that John William Martin's wifes' name was Susannah Mary Meador, and they were married on 8 December 1782 in Franklin County, Virginia. John William and Susannah Martin and their children end up in Wayne County, Kentucky. John died prior to 1840, Susannah died prior to 1830. I have their children listed as Tobias, Benjamin, James, Samuel, John Shelby, and Jeb/Job. 1810 Wayne County, Kentucky Tobias Martin - three males under age 10, one male age 26-45, one female under age 10, one female age 26-45 Benjamin Martin - one male age 16-26, one male age 26-45, one female under age 10, one female age 10-16, one female age 26-45 James Martin - two males under age 10, one male age 26-45, two females under age 10, one female age 26-45 Samuel Martin - one male under age 10, one male age 26-45, one female age 16-26 John Martin - one male under age 10, one male age 16-26, one female age 16-26, one female age 45 and up 1820 Monticello, Wayne County, Kentucky John Martin Sr. - one male age 45 and up, one female age 45 and up Benjamin Martin - one male under age 10, one male age 45 and up, one female age 26-45 Capt. That's interesting. I'm wondering if "Caffey" is actually "Cassey" because of the old writing that wrote "s" as "f." You would think, though, that "Cassey" would be pronounced with an "a" sound as in "cat," not like a long "a" as in "Casey." I think I may be making this more complicated than it is. Kathleen
Thanks, I would really appreciate any help. Kathleen St. Louis

I'm wondering if "Caffey" is actually "Cassey" because of the old writing that wrote "s" as "f." You would think, though, that "Cassey" would be pronounced with an "a" sound as in "cat," not like a long a" as in "Casey." I think I may be making this more complicated than it is. Hello, In the records of Rockingham Co., NC there is a marriage record for: Andrew Martin to Margaret CAFFEY, 10-7-1825 If they had a son named Caffey Martin, it would be after 1825. But what if their had been earlier marriages between the Martin family and the Caffey family?? I have no idea about that answer. My Martin family left Rockingham Co TN and settled at Henderson Co TN, some of my relatives are buried in the white race section of the CAFFEY Cemetery there. There is the same name again, and I have noticed that MOST of the settlers of Henderson Co TN were from North Carolina. Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but maybe these clues will help someone. Best regards, Lilly Martin of William M. Martin b. 1826 NC, Rockingham Co NC to Henderson Co TN, finally the line ended up at Navarro Co TX. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 5:11 AM Subject: Re: [MARTIN-L] MARTINS 1812 Tax Lists White CO TN > Did any of these MARTINS settle in Randolph Co., Ark in the 1830s? I think there was a Caffrey Jr. I could not tie my Samuel Martin to Caffrey Sr so I did not follow through on his descendants. Give me a couple of days and I will see what I have here on him. -------Original Message------- From: [email protected] Date: 03/21/05 20:19:36 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MARTIN-L] MARTINS 1812 Tax Lists White CO TN Did any of these MARTINS settle in Randolph Co., Ark in the 1830s? I am looking for information on Will MARTIN. My ancestor Margaret MARTIN Waters Drake was Will MARTIN's daughter by way of Margaret's death certificate. She was born 8 Nov 1865 in IL? (1900 census), IL? (1910), TN? (1920). She first married John W. WATERS in Blount Co., TN. in 1883. He died in 1889 Blount Co., TN. She remarried Charles Caulk DRAKE about 1891-1892 and they moved to Knoxville, TN. I don't know who her mother was. It is listed as unknown. The census even waffles as to Margaret's father's birthplace (IL & TN). I really don't know how reliable the certificate info may be. Does anyone recognize this family? Thank you, Lynn in IL

Sir: Please be nice and learn how to unsubscribe from this list. It's really easy and can be done the same way that you did it when you subscribed to this nice list.
