    1. Re:JACOB MARTIN...PEGGY SAPP
    2. I am still looking for the marriage of Jacob Martin and Peggy (maybe Margaret) Sapp. He was born about 1780/88 she was botn about 1790. Children were born in SC. all I have is son: Jacob Martin born 1814, son: Henry Sapp Martin, b. 1824. Rumor has a Margaret, and a Jackson, or John Jackson. I have no proof of the latter. Jacob married about 1834 in S.C. possibly to Prudence (may be Seale surname)? Charles and Elenor Seale came to Shelby Co Al at the same time and lived next door. Jacob came to Al, Shelby Co, in 1840 census, then lived in Chilton Co also...stayed here till death. So did Henry Sapp...who married Nancy Busby, d/o Meredith and Mary Brooks Busby, who came to Shelby Co Al, also. Jacob's son was my ggrandfather...Columbus J Martin who married Susan Busby,(b.1852) July 1 1869 in Shelby Co Al. Any info from anyone in this family appreciated. Stella

    1. Martin / Walker; KY and TN; ca 1840 - 1860
    2. According to my Aunt, Clara Mae Walker Hughes, Martha WALKER, born ca. 1824, married a James MARTIN, born ca. 1817 in KY, around 1841 and moved to Gibson County, TN. They would have been in Floyd or Perry County, KY. I can find them on the 1850 Gibson County, TN federal census but not on subsequent census returns for Tennessee. Does anyone recognize this family and know where they went after TN? Aunt Mae made a note that Martha died "before 1868". Regards, Bob Walker Personal Web Page: http://members.aol.com/rwa5352802

    1. Alexander Strong Martin son of Alexander Martin, Governor of NC
    2. A notice for Alexander Strong Martin descendents. A shop in Summerfield, NC is selling tapestry throws with the history of Bruce's Crossroads/Summerfield NC included. The throw includes a woven picture of the Martin House....former home of Alexander Strong Martin who was the son of Alexander Martin governor of NC after the close of the war. Alexander Strong Martin purchased the house from Valentine Allen. The throw also includes the Bruce Monument, Bruce Cemetery, a depiction of Colonel Lt Horse Harry Lee and his bugler boy and other historical interest. There is a two page documented history included with the throw also showing a copy of Charles Bruce's signature which appeared numerous times during the Revolutionary War on pay vouchers. The history is documented. For those that do not know, the town of Summerfield was at one time named Bruce's Crossroads. You can see the name on pre-1800 maps. The name was changed in the 1800's to Summerfield. The throws were made for the Summerfield Founder's Day which was May 14th. There is a limited supply left and you may contact me for more information or call directly to the shop. The full color tapestry throws sell for $70 plus $4.90 tax and s/h charges. This seems high but the throw is very beautiful and worth having. Throws at National Parks in just two tone colors sell for $80. A portion of the sales are going toward the Summerfield Community Park. A throw is hanging in the Summerfield Town Hall. If you descend from this Martin line, you will be very proud to own one and have the history. A Shade Different (336) 643-6811 (They will take orders over the phone with credit card.) 3. Hello Russ, If you go to Navarro Co TX in the 1880 census, (LDS site free), all the Martin houses are my relatives. This line came from Rockbridge Co NC to Henderson Co TN as of 1852, to Navarro Co TX as of 1878. If you can trace your Josie Lockie Martin back to anyone in the 1880 census in Navarro Co TX, then you are related to me. You don't say where your line was in 1880, so I can see any connection right now. George Wesley Martin who is shown in the 1880 census with wife Martha Virginia Cunningham, and children, is at Navarro Co TX near his mother, cousin and others all related to him. This same George Wesley Martin was born 1849 Rockingham Co NC, and is listed there with his mother anf ather in the 1850 census, along with an older sister named H. E. born 1848 Rockingham Co NC. It is thought that this Martin line is related to Bailey Martin b. 1796 , who lived all his life in Rockingham Co NC. Baily Martin's mother was Lydia Martin of Rockinham Co NC, and his brother was Michajah Martin, and I am 'guessing' his father was the earlier Bailey Martin listed there. 3. Hello, Here is my ancestor: William M. Martin b. 1826 NC married: Mary M. Young, m. 7-24-1847 Rockingham Co NC. 1850 census at Rockingham Co NC 1860 census Henderson Co TN (Lexington area) 1870 census, same as above 1880 census, widow and most kids at Navarro Co TX William M. Martin died in Henderson Co TN, he died 1870 and the Masonic Lodge there recorded his death officially. The court of Henderson Co Tn appointed Barzilla J. Young to be legal guardians of his minor children. This man was the brother of Mary M. Young. Mary M. Young was born 1825 NC, she was the dauther of Robert and Mary Young of Rockingham Co NC. When Mary Young Martin was widowed in 1870, she remained in TN until 1878 and then moved herself, and almost all of her children with her, to Navarro Co TX. The 1880 census at Navarro Co TX shows 4 Martin households, and all are related to her. The children of William M. Martin and Mary M. Young are: 1. H. E. Martin b. 1850 NC, she is female, possibly Harriet? 2. George Wesley Martin b. 1849 NC, married Martha Virginia Cunningham at Lexington, Henderson Co TN, moved to Vavarrro Co TX. 3. Sawson, or Ramson Martin b. 1851 NC, in 1870 he was listed as aSaloon clerk in Henderson Co TN, I do not know if he remained in TN, or moved to TX with the family. 4. Mary Caroline Martin b. 1854, she might have never married, she died in Navarro Co TX and he name was still Martin. 5. Bailey J. Martin b. 1863/65 TN, he moved to TX. He is possibly named in honor of his grandfather, Bailey Martin of Rockingham Co NC. 6. Joseph Allen Martin b. 1867 TN, he moved to Navarro Co TX, he married there to Nancy E. Doolen, they moved to Sunset. Montague Co TX. They are my ancestors. 7. Margaret E. Martin b. 1869 TN 8. Isabelle/Isabella Martin 9. William B. Martin These last 3 named, were in the court documents in TN, but I did not find them listed in TX later. 2. I have just began my search for Jackson Martin's family. I am hoping to find a living descendant willing to submit DNA to either prove or disprove a connection to my ancestors. I am pretty sure I know who Jackson's parents and siblings are, just need the DNA proof to prove it. I was hoping to find either of Jackson's two sons, Stephen or William's, descendants. The search continues! I'll be in GA next week to search the records there in person. Thank you for your input. It is greatly appreciated. Ally In a message dated 5/14/2005 7:54:12 A.M. 2. Well, Russ, none of it seems to fit, but, perhaps, someday when I get my line worked out, we may find that we are related. Thanks for your response. I have been out for a while. Julia In a message dated 5/14/2005 6:39:56 P.M. Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Hi Julia! You are right; it does seem to be quite a coincidence. The father of my George is given as Henry J. Martin, born 8-18-1799 in TN. Henry was married to Sarah Bush. Henry's father is Jonas Martin, born 1-9-1775, in Lanesboro, MA. Jonas is the son of Reuben Martin, born in Woodbury, CT in 1746. As an interesting side item, Lanesboro, MA was founded by Jonas' grandfather, Samuel, twice. He was driven out after the first founding in 1755 by Indian skirmishes and went back in 1759. He donated 1 1/2 acres of land for their first church. Several years later, he was kicked out of the church for drinking and cussing!
