    2. It would be wonderful if both you, Anthony, and Simon would join our Martin DNA Project. All the Projects are over-weighted with us Americans who are crazy to find where we come from. Wouldn't it be fun if your DNA matched that of an American who has been stuck on his origins. Matching in the database, also, tells your where your family was 1000s of years ago and 10s of 1000s of years ago. Take a peek at our Project and click on "Results" to see the matches that have been posted to date. _http://www.small-stuff.com/MARTIN/DNA/_ (http://www.small-stuff.com/MARTIN/DNA/) Julia French Wood In a message dated 7/18/2005 7:01:53 P.M. 3. I've "rescued" an old family bible belonging to the FELLOWS Family of New York. The information contained in the bible is as follows: Jonathan & Mariah FELLOWS Family Bible Brattleborough, VT 1825 Note inside - To Norris W. GREENE by Mary MARSHON 1960 Jane Ann MARTIN born at Johnstown, NY on 6 May 1795, died 9 April 1860 March 27th 1853 At Taghkanic on the twenty seventh inst by the Rev. Mr. HUNT, Mr. Martin L. SMITH to Miss Margaret BLASS, daughter of Abram BLASS Martin L. SMITH born 30 Mar 1822 Margaret SMITH born 7 Apr 1832 Howard A. SMITH born 31 Jan 1854, died 22 Feb 1861 Emory SMITH born 14 Aug 1855 Ella SMITH born 20 Dec 1857 Attie SMITH born 4 Feb 1861 5th March 1808 At Claverack on the fifth by the Rev. Mr. GEBHARD, Mr. Jonathan FELLOWS to Miss Maria CLEAVELAND, daughter of Elephar CLEAVELAND Jonathan FELLOWS born 19 Feb 1787, died 7 Dec 1843 Maria FELLOWS born 22 Nov 1789, died 30 Mar 1826 William FELLOWS born 12 May 1809, died 16 Feb 1854 Eliphaz FELLOWS born 5 Sept 1810, died 21 Dec 1811 Walter FELLOWS born 8 Dec 1812, died 1 Feb 1813 John FELLOWS born 29 Jan 1814 Henry FELLOWS born 18 Dec 1816, died 3 Oct 1892 Reuben FELLOWS born 15 Sept 1820 Jonathan FELLOWS married to Jane Ann SMITH 15 Oct 1826 Leonard H. FELLOWS born 10 Jun 1828, died 11 Dec 1840 Based on limited research I found Martin L. & Margaret SMITH living in Claverack, NY during the 1880 census along with two children, Emory age 24, and Alta age 19. All were listed as born in NY as were all of their parents. Martin was a Carpenter by trade, Emory was a Telegraph Operator, and Alta was working in the Cotton Mill. Records indicate that Jonathan FELLOWS was born in Claverack, NY and that his parents were Philemon FELLOWS and Martha ELTON. His first wife, Maria CLEVELAND was b. at Canterbury, CT to parents Eliphas CLEVELAND and Anna PELLETT and died at Taghkanic, NY. It appears that all of their children were born in Claverack, NY. Their son William FELLOWS married Catharine M. HOLENBECK or HALLENBECK and had at least one child, Henry B. FELLOWS b. 14 Nov 1839 in Hudson, NY. Son John FELLOWS and his wife Caroline were living in Claverack, NY during the 1880 census along with a niece, Carrie DELAMATER age 19. John's wife Caroline was listed as age 64 at the time, all born in NY. Son Henry FELLOWS and wife Catharine RANNEY were living in Copake, NY during the 1880 census. Catharine was listed as age 59, born in NY, working in the Millinery. Records indicate that they had a son, Henry Parker FELLOWS b. 4 Aug 1849 at Copake, NY. I'm hoping to see the bible returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    2. Hello Martin Cousins: Can anyone build on this Martin for me Looking for his New York Obit. Waco Times Herald, Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1915 "FORMER AGENT SAP HERE DIED IN NEW YORK, DEC. 19 Yesterday afternoon a letter was received by Judge W. H. Davis, clerk of Geyser City camp No. 6, Woodmen of the World, telling of the death in New York December 19 of A. V. Martin. The letter came from Mrs. A. V. Martin. For many years A. V. Martin was agent here for the San Antonio & Aransas Pass railway, and he went to New York about eight years ago, where he was connected with Wells Fargo Express company, having charge of one of the company's divisions in the metropolis. He was well known in Texas railroad circles, and was a brother of the late E. J. Martin, for many years general passenger agent of the SAP." Daniel E Horton

    3. I need some help. I'm trying to track down an Owen Martin b. ca 1857 in Meigs Co., Tn. to Owen and Sarah Starnes Martin. He married Adelia Colville in 1883 in Meigs Co. I think she was the dau. of William and Sarah J. Colville (in 1880 in Sequatchie Co.). I find who I think is Owen in 1900 in Saline Co., Il. (one of his sisters and her hubby were there), but he is widowed and no kids with him. I can't find him in 1910, but by 1920, the fellow I think is him is in Stanley Co., S.D. Is there anyone who knows anything about this family? I'll share what I have.Donna

    2. In the Poor School List of 1855 for Barrett's/1022nd District of Lumpkin Co., GA, there are three Martin's listed together (they also lived next door to each other in the Lumpkin Co., GA 1850 census): Jesse Martin, 2 children; William Martin, 3 children; GLJ Martin, 3 children. Does anyone know if GLJ Martin is also known as Jackson Martin? I find Jackson Martin listed on the census of (Lumpkin Co., GA) 1850 and (Dawson Co., GA) 1860, though no GLJ Martin. I also found a GLJ Martin on the 1855 (?) tax record but no Jackson. I am trying to see if Jackson Martin is one and the same person as GLJ Martin. Jackson Martin, b. 1815 in NC. Married Sarah C. (Last Name Unknown to me). They had six known children. I find no other records of GLJ Martin except on the Poor School List and Tax record of the same year. Thank you. Ally B

    2. Hello Martin Researchers, Jackson MARTIN was born in 1815 in NC. His wife, Sarah, was born in SC in 1815. I believe they met & married in GA. They had six known children with three known surviving until the 1870 census; two surviving in the 1880 census. As near as I can tell, only William A. Martin married and had a descendant, William Martin, born in Barrett District of Dawsonville, Dawson Co., GA in September 1879. I cannot find them after the 1880 census. I am trying to find William A. Martin's family, if indeed, they survived. I believe Martha and Dolly Martin died in the major influenza epidemic in 1857. It is possible Jackson and his son, Stephen, died serving in the War Between the States, though I haven't found anything to prove or disprove it yet. Elizabeth Martin could have married between 1870-1880; to whom, I have no idea. 1850 Barrett District of Lumpkin Co., GA 1860 Barett District of Dawsonville, Dawson Co., GA 1870 Black District of Dawsonville, Dawson Co., GA 1880 Barret District of Dawsonville, Dawson Co., GA < > last year found in census. 3. Gaylynn and John, I've exchanged emails with John in the past and now am still wondering if we have connections. Gaylynn mentions Martin connections in Clarke and Jones Counties, where my Martins are from. The came from Dale and Barbour Counties, Alabama. It seems too coincidental that we have Martins on much the same migration path without there being some relationship. Unfortunately, I can't fit the pieces together. My Martins included a William Henry Martin (b. ca. 1829 in Jasper Co., GA), son of James L. and Sarah C. (nee Smith) Martin. William Henry Martin had a son Henry Martin, b. ca. 1851/1858, who married Martha Ida Barnes, but, as far as I know, they stayed in Dale County, Alabama. It was William Henry Martin's brother, Francis Marion Martin (my gg grandfather), who moved to Mississippi, first to Wayne County (next door to Clarke), and then to Jones County. William Henry Martin had a daughter, Elizabeth (b. ca. 1851/1858) who married Jason Andrews (according to Dowling's A Dowling Family). Sure wish we could sort all these Martins out! As far as I know Henry and Elizabeth did not return to Ala or Miss from Texas. After their marriage in Carroll Co Ga in l855, I next found them in Russell Co Alabama in the l860 census. One male child born in l858 was the only child listed.....N. Martin. I don't know who this was. In Leon Co Texas in the l870 census three children were listed....Margretta, born l860, Henry R. Jr., born l866 and Nancy, born l868...all born in Alabama. Nancy married Davis Baggett in l883 in Freestone Co Texas. After l870 Henry and Elizabeth disappeared ....so they could have returned to Ala or Miss. In the l880 census of Freestone Co Texas (adjoins Leon Co) Nancy and Henry Jr were living with other Martin families....my great uncle. We assume Henry and Elizabeth had died but so far have not determined what happened to them. We believe Henry had at least two brothers, John Jackson Martin, bl820 and William Ervin Martin, bl8l8. William married Nancy Pinder in Upson Co Ga in l842. In the l860 census John Martin (Jack) was living in Randolph Co Ala....adjoins Carroll Co Ga. William was in Dale Co Al in l860.....by l870 all three of these families were in Freestone and Leon Co in Texas. Does any of this sound familar? I would appreciate any info on the Carroll Co Martins. As you might guess I am looking for parentage for the three Martin brothers. John Kulbeth, Merced, Ca. --WebTV-Mail-12710-2157--
