Thanks Julia...DNA testing is definitely on our genealogy agenda. Seek information on Jobe Tillman MARTIN, m.Julia Ledbetter. His parents were James Martin and Margaret (or Mary?) Crabtree. Jobe was b.9-25-1886, Boone CO AR, d.3-3-1949, Grove Delaware CO OK. Jobe had brothers Harve (Harvey?) who lived in Alpena Pass AR in 1949, "Bud," whose name may have been Willy or William, and sisters, Stella, m.Young and Susie, both living at some point in Harrison AR, and Tisha, m.McManis who lived in Tucson AZ. Jobe and Julia had two children, Ross and Earl. Earl m.Elizabeth Durham, had two sons, Everett and Gary. Any help/information greatly appreciated although I can't offer to give much in return as the above exhausts my little store of information. Except, as I think about it, I have pictures that might be of interest to someone researching this same line. Leo
Your math is correct, the date of death is not! I posted a response to that earlier today, but it did not seem to come through as yet. The date of death was apparently 1730-33. I think the 1765 was an error on my part in data entry, which I later picked up without realizing the error I'd made. Sorry for the confusion. My errant post also mentioned that the source for much of my Martin family history is a Martin family Bible, in possession of my grandfather, whose mother was Maggie Martin, daughter of Aaron Coon Martin and Sarah Ann Hodge, as well as a family tree that was produced by one of the family members. That tree had a gap from Lydia Martin to Joshua Martin, who was also my grandfather's soldier in his membership application to the NSSAR. So, from Joshua Martin forward, he documented names and dates with accuracy. From Joshua back, the dates were perhaps a little sketchier. Lydia's date of death was simply an error, which I didn't notice when sending that earlier post. Gary Allen Richardson PS The Martin family tree is fairly complete, with one section titled the "Martinsville Martins", and another the "Descendants of Aaron Coon Martin". It has a number of the Smalley family, as well as many other lines who married into the Martin family. There were often as many as 10 siblings, most of whom married, in certain generations, which makes for a fairly large tree. If you're part of that Martin family, I can forward a copy of the tree, if you like. It's a bit large to scan and email, so I'll need a mailing address to get it to you.
Gary, Do you really mean Lydia Martin d/o John Martin & Hester Roberts died at age 110? b. 1655 and d 1765 Piscataway NJ. Married John Smalley Jr. 1676? Richard Clark [email protected]

I am looking for positive connection of my Great-grandfather SAMUEL ELLIS MARTIN to his parents. I believe they were WILLIAM MARTIN, JR. and TINSY LAWHORNE. He was born August 8, 1824 in Amherst Co, VA(according to the census of 1900) He married NANCY HARTLESS in Feb. of 1860, though by that time they had several children. He was head of household in the 1850 census, which contained 2 girls who were actually to old to be his, however, the other children listed were his. He had only one son ever listed in the census, WILLIAM ELLIS MARTIN. The family moved to Rockbridge Co., Va sometime after 1867 but before the 1870 census. WILLIAM ELLIS MARTIN first married LUCY LAWHORN(E), of Amherst Co., had 7 children, then married NANCY CASH, and had 7 more children. Any information would be appreciated. I do have a lot on SAMUEL E. MARTIN'S descendants, but not much on his ancestors. Thanks, Phyllis

Hi Tricia, Sorry, but I don't see any connection with your Martin's. My Nathan was born in Kentucky in 1829 to William and Mariah Martin, William's father was John O'Friel Martin. Nathan moved to Illinois (Menard county and later Mason county), near his father's sister Eleanor, after the 1850 census. It is not known when or why Eleanor and her husband Ephriam Willcox (Wilcox) moved there, but all were born in Kentucky. I don't want to dismiss anything out of hand, but none of the names you gave fit into my family. I am constantly amazed how my Martin's on Dad's side and my Mayfield's on Mom's side crossed paths in their migration routes, but never knew each other until the both landed in side by side counties in Kansas. So anything is possible. I have a John Smalley, Jr. in my Martin line, mostly living in New Jersey. John, Jr. was born in Plymouth, MA (may have been Plymouth County) ca 1644 and died 1733 in Piscataway, NJ. He married Lydia Martin in 1676 in Piscataway, and they had 10 children. John Smalley (Sr) was born ca. 1615 in Devonshire, England, and married Ann Walden (b. 1616 Plymouth, MA). Both died in Piscataway. Lydia Martin was born ca. 1655 in New Hampshire, died 1765 in Woodbridge, NJ. She was a daughter of John Martin (b. 1620 England) and Esther 'Hester' Roberts (b. 1628 NH). They also both died in Piscataway. John and Esther are my 8th ggrandparents, through their son Joseph Martin and Sarah (Gibbs) Trotter. My grandfather Henry Hamilton's mother was the last Martin in my direct line. He has a Martin family tree showing quite a few of the Smalley's, descended from John and Lydia. I do know that some of my husband's ancestors were in the Pennsylvania area before they came south. My husband's immediate ancestors were from the Northern part of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. So, there may be a connection to your Smalleys somewhere. I am saving your e-mail for our research on the Smalley line. To my knowledge none of my Martin's lived in Alabama, although some of the names match names in my database the ages are way off. But the name Smalley interested me because my Grandfather Aaron Martin 1860-1839 married Samantha Jane Smalley 1862-1928 on 11-20-1881 in Mercer County Missouri. Samantha was the daughter of William Henry and Sarah Moss Smalley and Granddaughter of Isaac and Emma Smalley. Aaron was the son of Nathan and Rhoda Martin and Grandson of William and Mariah Martin. This Martin family's route of migration was from Virginia>Kentucky>Illinois>Missouri>Kansas. The Smalley's migrated from Penn>Ohio>Missouri>Kansas. Do you see any possible relationship? This grave is in the old Harris Cemetery at Akron, Alabama. The cemetery is off Raspberry Road, which itself is a turn off Hale County Highway 21. Just a short distance down Raspberry, there is a white church building (no name is on the church building). Turn left at the church building onto a dirt road. The cemetery is at the end of the dirt road. My e-mail address is: [email protected] Mary E. Martin September 18, 1874 -- May 3, 1904
