Julia, God love ya, honey. The least we can do is wait patiently. Dear Julia, First, we are thankful we are safe. You are the one being inconvienced - out of your home for who knows how long. Will you even have a home to return to? Is there anything we can do to help you? Do you have food, shelter, clothes, etc.? Please, tell us what you need and how we may get it to you. We are praying for you and other hurricane victims. Again, I ask that you please tell us what we can send you. Dear Julia, I pray that you are able to return home and that New Orleans will be restored in record time. The Martin ancestors that I look for are also from La., Baton Rouge/ Cotton Port/Bunkie/Avoyelles/Point Coupee. That was back in the 1850s to the 1910 era. My ancestors moved to Texas because of floods. I do not know how to spell Chaffeli, but my g grandmother often spoke of the river flooding and how they tore the floorboards up out of the kitchen floor and made a raft. Some one helped pull them to a bridge and safety. They all stayed in Melville and then went to east Texas. It may be that records of my Issac Martin are lost, but I hope that both you and I will find what we are looking for on our Martins. Carol, Rhonda, et al, I would like to get on this IA/MO MARTIN bandwagon. My husband's MARTINS were in Schuyler Co. MO area and there seems to be a possible IA connection. My FIL was born there. His father started working in the shoe factories at age 12. One or all may have been the International Shoe Company. Confirmed, I have William Ellis MARTIN (b. 1871) m. 1894 Margaret M. AYERS (b. 1876). children: Edward, Eunice, Arthur Ray (Brownie *), Renis M.(?), Glen, Mary N., Lemella, Mable, and Hazel. I believe that Abraham (Abram/Abrem) and Louisa J., nee Speer (Speers/Spear) MARTIN were the parents of William Ellis. I have IA, IN, and a couple other states as birthplace for these two. Any of this fit to someone's ancestry ? Very best wishes to you and your family. Please let the list know if there is ANYTHING you need or we can do. Thinking of you and all the displaced people, Lyn Albuquerque, NM
Julia, Have a friend in BR (Baton Rouge, for the rest of listers). Are you there or with friends, family nearby? My friend and I have kept close tabs, so I know the situation in BR and probably more than most about NO, than the rest of the country. She knows many who have either been uprooted or are part of the rescue teams. We all hope you and yours are safe. Dear Julia, I'm so sorry to hear that you are one of the victims of Katrina. Had no idea that is where you lived. I hope that things will work out for your soon. Is there anything I can do or send? I know Hawaii is pretty far away but my offer stands. Please let me know. You will be in my prayers.
