This is off the subject of genealogy but I must ask the list if they are getting bombed with Spam mail. I have two e mail addresses and this one is used for rootsweb lists ONLY, nothing else. All other mail goes to another address. I belong to a number of rootsweb lists. Has rootsweb sold our addresses?? I apologize if I have irritated anyone on this list but would like to know if anyone else is having the same problem. Thanks, Fern

Hello everyone, SPAM is an issue that we all need to be aware of and we all need to address. The following few paragraphs are directly from the List Administrators help pages at Roots Web regarding SPAM. RootsWeb recently began using MAPS databases to block incoming Spam. This may result in subscriber's messages being blocked, if their ISP (service provider) is listed in the database. Mail caught in the MAPS filters it will look similar to this: ----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to newmail.rootsweb.com.: >> MAIL From: << 550 5.0.0 Mail from 209.51.167.10 refused by blackhole site relays.mail-abuse.org If someone caught in the MAPS filters contacts you, please direct them to the help pages, which explain what steps they should take. RootsWeb constantly adjusts their filters; they block the vast majority of spam from reaching the lists. I you can easily check to see if the SPAM made it to you through the list by looking at the Subject line of your emails. Everything that comes through the Marshall List will have [MARSHALL] at the beginning. For example, the subject line of this email is: Re: [MARSHALL] Puzzeled If by some chance the SPAM by passes Rootsweb and me, then please forward a copy of the spam to me so that I can report it to Rootsweb.
