List, This is not strictly a genealogy issue, but I think it is a valid issue that needs to be brought to the attention of people on the list. I have added the statement below to my own genealogy web site. I had two instances last week when someone asked for information about their families and my messages were blocked by their spam blockers. When someone uses Earthlink.com or certain other mail servers they get lazy and let the mail server block all messages that they have not added to their "approved" list. It is very irritating to me for someone to request genealogy data from me and then block my reply to them. It puts me in the position of having to go to a web site, follow some instructions, enter another message, enter a code......... I have now taken the position that if they do not pre-approve my email address BEFORE I reply to their message I will make no futher attempt to send them the genealogy information that they requested. I love to communicate with "cousins" and others who are interested in something on my web site. Are you using Earthlink, or another email server that automatically blocks every message as spam unless I go to a web site and jump through hopes to get the message to you? If so you MUST set your account to accept messages from me BEFORE I reply to your request. I will be happy to communicate with you through email. But, you need to be sure that my messages will get to you the first time I send them and NOT be blocked by an automatic message screener. I deal with spam everyday and don't like it. But, I also do not like having to solve your spam problem by doing extra work to get messages to go through.
