Hi everyone, recently I have received an email that I find awfully hard to believe. Has anyone else heard of or received the same email from someone claiming to live in Salt Lake City, stating that the LDS library is about to destroy thousands of records? Part of the email I have received reads as follows: It would go a long way if you would file a letter of protest with your request to get copies. "Don't eliminate the Ancestrial File". It has great value to your patrons. Please do not destroy it nor place it out of our reach in the Granite Vault. (Sounds really urgent doesn't it. It is to the ones using it. As I said, anyone who can value records submitted from 1976 to 2000 needs to yell loudly and quickly.) Also request having someone go through the actual family group sheets that were once held in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building on the 4th floor. The whole collection of hundreds of books has been taken out of circulation and are about to also be destroyed. Yell Loudly and ask if someone can look up names in the actual paper submission on the FLAGG and Barstow lines if you have an interest. Has anyone heard of this or received something like this? Thanks Carol Gabriel List Admin
Sorry, I have never heard of this. Could it be someone's idea of a joke?? Bad taste if it is meant to be a joke but some people will do anything to upset a bunch of people. i.e. bad virus' ----- Original Message ----- From: "The Gabriels in BC" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 23, 2004 12:45 PM Subject: [MARSHALL] The LDS Library in Salt Lake City and record destruction > Hi everyone, recently I have received an email that I find awfully hard > to believe. Could this be something that has come out of a misunderstanding ? The LD Library is under going planned major renovations this summer and certain collections will be temporarily moved around while the work is being done. It is announced on the LDS web-site. Hopefully, this is the case. Yes hopefully this is the case, and maybe someone else has mistranslated the information. If they are trying to playa joke, then it is in very poor taste. I shall have to look up the LDS website and see what they have to say. I received the email about the destruction of records through the Genealogy.com notification board. That is why I was wondering if this was real or not.
