Since posting my original question, I have found an Abraham Marshall who was a dentist (1861 an '71 cnsus), and had a son Arthur born in 1870. There is a death record that seems to be him in Dec 1871. Its strange though - his (Abraham's) birth was recorded in St Pancras, London in 1837. In 1861 there is an Ebeneazer Marshall's marriage recorded in the same district - and on the 1871 census Abraham's eldest child is shown as born in 1862. This all leads me to think I may have found my Gt Gt Granfather - and that he used two different biblical first names. Is this likely? Anyway - I now have enough theory to justify purchasing copies of Abraham's birth, Arthurs birth, and Ebeneazers marriage certificates. Hopefully they will confirm the theory. Thanks for your reply Bruce.
