Author: megbaker1 Surnames: Marshall/Marshel Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.marshall/4768.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There were references in a few of the primary sources for an additional James Marshall/Marshel, not to mention other Marshalls. This was true of (as I recall) militia records, census records, and land records. However, several sources refer to Col. James Marshel as the one involved in the Whiskey Rebellion, Constitutional Convention, etc. so in general I am fairly confident that he was the one referenced in all the sources I used. There was also a John Marshall in Washington County at the time, who is mentioned (somewhere?) as a relative of Col. James Marshel. Several other Marshall families are mentioned, especially in Crumrine's History of Washington County. I'm not sure whether or how all these Marshel/Marshall families are connected, which is part of my dilemma. I actually got interested in Col. Marshel as a result of trying to track a James Marshall in Washington County somewhat later in history. He was the father of Erastus, Epenetus (?) and George Marshall. I am descended from George Marshall. I don't know that I have any connection at all to Col. Marshel. Meg Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
