My GGG-grandfather,Willis Marshall,is our brickwall.Born Apr 27 1796,but don't know where.An 1884 "History of Marion County Missouri" said he was form Pennsylvania and a member of the Christian Church.In the 1880 census,his son ,my GG-grandfather,James Forsyth Marshall,said Willis was from North Carolina.The earliest known record is his marriage,May 29 1820 Orange Co. Virginia,to Sarah Whitelaw,daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Crenshaw Whitelaw of Orange County.Willis was listed in the 1830 census for Albemarle Co. Virginia with his wife and their four children,William Alexander,Mary Ann Elizabeth,James Forsyth and David Whitelaw.The family moved to Missouri about 1832 and two more children were born,Elizabeth Columbia and Andrew Jackson.Willis owned and operated a mill on the Faubius River.He died Jun 1 1852 of cholera and James took over the mill's operation until it was burned by Union forces.I'm a member of Family Tree DNA's Marshall Surname Project and matched very closely to a descendant of William Marshall,born @ 1650 in England and moved to Maryland.I think my wall is starting to loosen.
