Hi Folks, I'm not a Marshall researcher but found in my husbands-grandfathers things two Microfilms titled "Marshall, J.P. Memoirs of the Late Rev. Abraham Marshall. Typed from the original copy by J.P. McGraw. Pub. No. 2150 Positive" My husbands Grandfather was the J.P. McGraw mentioned above. Is anyone familiar with this Rev. Abraham Marshall? Doing a quick search I found he was a prominent Baptist Minister in Georgia. Before, during, after the Revolutionary War I'm not clear on. Your help appreciated. Warmest Regards, Pamela Burnette
Hello Pamm, I am Joe Marshall, a descendant of Joseph Marshall, a younger brother of Rev Abraham Marshall. Abraham was born in Windsor Ct., 1748, I recall, the oldest child of Daniel and Martha Stearns. (Daniel Marshall had an older child, Daniel, Jr. born of his deceased first wife.) Rev Abraham succeeded Rev Daniel as Pastor of Kiokee Baptist Church at the time of Daniels death in 17894. Rev Abraham made several trips back to Connecticut during his lifetime, preaching along the way. Your manuscript is no doubt a copy of one I saw in the 1960's, and wish I had a copy. Rev Abraham and his wife had four children, two surviving childhood. One, Rev Jabez, succeeded Rev Abraham as Pastor of Kiokee upon Abraham's death about 1817 as I recall. Rev Jabez had an illustrious career including a major role in establishing the Southern Baptist Convention in Augusta. Rev Jabez died young, age 30-32 and is buried just behind the pulpit at the old Kiokee Church in Appling, Columbia County, Georgia. As I recall, his widow moved back to Eatonton, Ga to be with her family after Jabez's death. Other descendants of Rev Daniel still live in Columbia County and others have moved to other parts of Georgia, Alabama, La, and Texas and Arkansas, according to some old records. I would really love to get a copy of that manuscript. I remember it as interesting, even entertaining, reading. He had a sense of humor. Among Abrahams distinctions were ordaining the first Negro Baptist Minister, Savannah and I can't remember the date.
