I include adoptees with a notation that they are adopted. Legally, they do become part of the family, so they should be included, but since they are not "blood" relatives, the notation takes care of that. ALSO, and this is a very large and important fact, they do not feel rejected and you don't end up causing and being in the middle of a whirlwind/feud. Bailey married Mary Gertrude Marquette and had 3 children - Robert (aka Bobby, buried between them in Youngstown, OH), Mary Catherine, and William Joseph (my father). I have 4 adopted children and they are in my family tree along with their birth parents etc. My tree would not be complete without them. The Quarrier Homes took in orphan children. You can visit the Quarrier's website and ask for Margaret and Sarah's history to be sent to you. They were not sent over as indentured servants; they came with a group of residents from the Quarrier Homes. Look in the 1891 census at a Family History Centre, and you *should* be able to find them. Ancestry does not have the complete 1891 census for Canada, but does have portions. I have the obituary notice for our gg grandmother, Elizabeth Marshall, and in it is stated, "Joseph and James of Lowell, Massachusettes." Try the U.S. census of 1911 to see if they're there. Also, check our family line on Ancestry, to see if I've added more information. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ROLLO Surnames: Marshall, Davies, Davis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.marshall/5.6.92.99.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Catherine Marshall was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania in 1830 (according to her obituary -- her tombstone says 1829, as does the 1900 census, where she also says she gave birth to 10 children, 7 of whom are still alive), and was married to John Davis in 1850 in Ohio. They moved to Illinois in 1857 where they farmed in Fulton County, then in Champaign County from 1875 until her husband died in 1889. She had 10 children, three of which died in infancy. Her obituary says, "she was one of the old time members of Morris chapel and was a consistent Christian in word and deed. She was highly respected and dearly beloved by all who knew her and her death will be sincerely regretted by a large number of friends." Janet Newman (janet.t.newman@worldnet.att.net) has another obituary that says that Catherine was born in Connellsville, Pa. She also says, "A marginal note on her obit suggested she was the daughter of Marshall and Francis Shallenbarger." Marian Kruzan says she was from the Monongahela Region of Pa. east of Pittsburgh, probably Fayette County. We also have a letter written by Mildred S. Watkins to the Champaign County Gen. Society in 1983 which says in part, "Catherine Davis... was born ca. 1829 in Fayette Co., Penn. I do not know her parents names, nor do I know that they were in Champaign County, but believe they were." (We found an older Marshall couple in Champaign County in the 1880 census: Edward and Julia Marshall, living in Philo.) Her obituary also says she was born in Fayette County. There is an LDS IGI record for a Catherine Marshall, born 1829 in Indiana County, Pa., daughter of Samuel Marshall and Julia Ann Lantz. Indiana County is about 30 miles northwest of Fayette County, so I believe this could be our Marshall family. Another IGI record shows her as Catherine W. Marshall, born 1830 in Indiana County, Pa., same parents. Another IGI record shows a Catherine Marshall born 7 Apr 1834 in W. Mahoning Township of Indiana County, no parents listed. There are two marriage records in the IGI that show Catharine Marshall marrying John J. Davis, but both show the marriage "abt 1858" and in Villa Grove, Illinois (they married in 1850 in Ohio).
