I am looking for information regarding a Marshall Lafayette Coleman. He was born in NY in December of 1894. His father was William J. Coleman (b. Ohio)and Martha Coleman (nee. Marshall), who was the daughter of Lafayette Marshall and Mary Tway. He traveled extensivly because of his job with Standard Oil Co. He either lived in Manila or got caught there when the Japanese captured the Islands during WWII. He is listed among those civilians who were liberated after the massacre of Manlia. When his father William died, several grandchildren were listed as part of his estate. I believe them to have been children of Marshall's (although I do not know if he ever got married). I suppose these to be Marshall's children because he was the only male child in his family and the grandchildren's last names were Coleman. There names were William Coleman, Barbara Coleman and Patricia (estate in 1932). I don't know if Marshall ever returned to the states or if he died here or in the Islands. His sister Mildred Barto lived in Flushing, Queens, NY. I am assuming that Marshall returned and lived either with his children or with his sister. If Anyone has any info. regarding this man and his family I would love to hear from you. Thank you Joan

The men who names are H. L. Marshall and A. J. Baker, had been drinking and had driven all the passengers out of the smoker and were indulging in the playful pastime of shooting out of the car window and through the car, two bullets from their revolvers penetrating seats which had but a few minutes before been occupied by passengers. After the train crew's failure to quiet them officers were telegraphed for. Great indignaton is expressed here. The heaviest sentence for this crime in the territory is twenty-one years and the chances for them to get the limit is very good. Did your MARSHALL line go from Nova Scotia to Michigan? I happen to have friends who live in Mecosta Co with the last name of MARSHALL. I'll see them tomorrow and see if they know anything of this couple. If he doesn't, I'm sure his mother might. Never know-maybe you're related to them? Thank you for your interest. I picked up one of a couple, identified as John & Wife, John Marshall & Ariel Emeline. This was taken in the late 1800s or very early 1900s, by Odle in Big Rapids. She's wearing a black dress with a corsage on her left side. He's in a suit. I'd guess this might be a wedding photo, but I've never seen many of the ladies from this age wearing corsages. This is my best guess for dating the photo. I did find them living in Big Rapids in the 1920 census and were in their late 40s, early 50s in age. Emeline, came to the US from Canada in 1895. I'd like to find family to send these to. Please contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com for details. Kathy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
