    3. Hi List, Just sharing some misc. Marshall info., I am not related to this branch. Thomas Marshall was born in 1691 in Windsor, Hartford County, CT. He married Elizabeth Tudor on July 8, 1700, in Hartford County, CT, and had 5-7 children. One of these children was Gad Marshall, born in February 1731-32, in Hartford County, CT. (He is only called "Gad" in all records I have seen.) Gad married Mary Guild. They moved to Torrington, Litchfield County, CT, in 1745. Gad and Mary had six children. Their daughter, Artemesia/Artimesia (or one of the other 20 spellings I have seen!!), married Junia Preston, probably in Torrington, as that is where Junia and Artemesey's daughter, Zerepta (Serepta) was born in April 1779. "Zerepta" was listed by the clerk in the middle of the page and the bottom half of the page is blank. Apparently the clerk left room for the names of other children born to this couple, but they left before others were born. Junia first appears in Huntington Township, Luzerne County, PA, in 1800. (Where he was between 1779 and 1800 is unknown. He has never been found on a 1790 census.) Junia and Artymesa's children (probably as many as nine?): (1) Serepta (2) Horace Preston born about 1780 (based on census information) is my line. (3) Phineas Preston born about 1782 (based on his age listed on his tombstone in 1818 in Luzerne County, PA.) Yes, there were other children, but I have not been able to confirm that they belong to this same family. For example, there was one Artemesey Preston born in March 1801, in Huntington Township, Luzerne County, PA. Some say she was the daughter of Junia and Artymesa (born 1758-61), but most believe a woman back then would NEVER have a child in her early 40's, so they are giving her to Horace (as Horace's daughter!)! Also in Huntington Township was Polly Preston (named after Artymessia's sister, Polly Marshall?) who married Zephron Patrick Flowers in Luzerne County in 1817. My guess is that Polly and Artimesa were the two girls under 10 on the 1800 census for Junia's household, but then Artemesey's (1801-1823) death record states she was born in March 1801 (after the 1800 census), but she is not accounted for on the 1810 census for Horace's household?!? (So you can see why we are all so confused!!) So as you can see, there is a lot of guessing going on, but very little documentation!! I see before Gad - several generations - there were at least two named "Samuel" Marshall. So apparently this was a common name in this family. Horace's daughter, Serepta Preston, born 1809, married Lewis Smith in November 1830 in Delaware County, IN. John Marshall signed that document and for years it has been wondered if he was related to Serepta, through her grandmother, Artimesia (Preston) Marshall. Can you claim this Delaware County, IN, John Marshall (who lived there in 1830)? Junia was not a nice guy, so Artimes left him and purchased a farm in Waterford, Washington County, OH, in 1820. Both Horace and Artimes (& their "households") were on the 1820 Waterford Census.

    3. I would be very interested in knowing what became of this Jonathan Marshall, who he married, children's names, etc, especially if he ended up in New York around the mid-1860s. He's about the right age to have maybe been my long-lost ancestor I've been looking for. Many thanks. 3. Hi Judi, When I''m faced with this kind of problem, I put the material on my website and then send a note to the List and tell them where to go to see it. If you don't have access to a website of your own, then you may use mine. Pass by and have a look. http://john.rootsweb.ancestry.com/Marshall/webs.html The site is modest, but it does the job. FTP won't let you send it directly, but if you'd like to send it to me (jonrhy@yahoo.com), I'll put it on for you - unless it's huge. 3. Hi List, I have a lot of misc. Marshall material from various sources, mainly MD., DE., PA. & VA. Last night I scanned to the body of an e-mail using Microsoft Word 2 pages of material which also included a will on a William Marshall, but so far it doesn't seem to have reached the Marshall List, as I am not getting a copy myself. I tried using marshall@rootsweb.com and MARSHALL@rootsweb.com neither seem to work. I would like to keep sending more scanned pages as it may help one or more of you..............can someone tell me what I am doing wrong and how to go about scanning documents so it will appear in the body of the e-mail, as I do not think anything sent using an attachment will go through or will it? Thanks in advance for any help forthcoming. Judi Burkhardt

    3. Check with your list administrator. There is a limit to the size you can send to a Rootsweb list, plus a limit to the number of addresses you include in your TO: list. This is because these posts are archived and if they're huge, they take up too much archive space. Posts that are too big are held for administrator action, to either approve or send back to you to edit. If your list admin is busy or out of town, it might take a while to get a response. 3. In a deed dated 18 Jan 1785 there is a George Marshall of Accommack Co, VA setting free his slaves. It is witnessed by William Marshall. Does anyone know what Marshall family these two belong to? They go back to the Maryland Marshall's that has recently been discussed on this site. I'll check my misc. data to see if I can find their parents for you. Judi
