1. [MARSHALL] John MARSHALL miner from Bristol
    2. Martin Briscoe
    3. A question was forwarded on a mailing list that I receive. I have asked whether I can post the question in a few family history message boards.
A FRIEND of mine wrote from Mexico: "A British miner resting at our San Julian silver-gold project near Guadalupe y Calvo in the Sierra Madre of Chihuahua, was called John Marshall." John, who came from Bristol, lived from 1852 to 1902. His workers wrote on his gravestone that they greatly appreciated him. Any help in identifying this miner would be much appreciated. Terry

Further to my query reagarding miner John Marshall I have attached pictures of his headstone and grave location. From the FreeBMD site it shows that a John Marshall was born in Bedminster (registration district of south Bristol) during the first quarter of 1850. This search has now created quite a bit of interest in the Mexico mining fraternity and I have also attached a transcription on the headstone below. The mining company where my friend works are drilling on the hill near John Marshall's grave as it contains a number of rich gold and silver veins. The San Julian exploration property and the John Marshall vein discovery are mentioned on the company's website www.fresnillopic.com My friend David Giles works for Penoles and its subsidiary Fresnillo plc. "Sacred To The Memory of John Augustus Marshall Borm in Bristol, England March 12, 1850 Died in San Julian, Mexico September 18, 1902 They Rest from their Labours And Their Works Do Follow Them "Como Un Testimonio DE Carino Este Recuerdo Los Empleados De El" The Spanish part can be translated as follows: "As a testimony of Affection We, His Employess Consecrate This Memory" This Spanish bit suggests that maybe he was a fairly significant member of the mining team. Best Wishes Terry
I have a couple of pictures of the grave but awaiting permission to post. I will pass on any information that is found on him Martin Briscoe Fort William M&LFHS | Gwynedd FHS (I have subscribed to the list but will unsubscribe after a week, so after that can you send any replies direct to me so I can pass them on)

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: arc465174 Surnames: Marshall, Best Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.marshall/4892/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for the parents of Douglas Seymour Marshall who was born in Carbonear, New Foundland in 1893. He married Irene Best from Westleyville, New Foundland. This couple immigrated to the U.S. in 1921 and settled in Malden, Mass. When they arrived they already had a daughter Florence who was born in New Foundland and Douglas S. Jr. and Irene was born in Malden, Mass. I've searched the 1921 New Foundland Census with no results. The 1911 New Foundland Census was most destroyed and the area of interest for me is not available. There are several Marshalls from this town that have immigrated to the U.S. but I am unable to confirm that they are Family members except for a brother Hayward Marshall. I am interested in locating the parents and grandparents if the information is available. Hopefully someone can help. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Thank you very much for your time. David Marshall served in the War of 1812 in the 3rd Regt (Wimberly's) GA Militia as a private. Roll Box 132; Roll 602 (I am assuming this is located at the National Archives maybe, Atlanta.) I have been unable to find his parents. Mary ************** Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? 3. Hope this outline descendant tree helps someone. Also take note of the fact that Mary Isham Randolph Keith is a 2nd cousin to President Thomas Jefferson. Thomas' father, Peter Jefferson b.1708 had a sister, Martha Jefferson b.1710 (not shown below). In 1740 Martha m. Bennet Goode b.1710. Their daughter, Lucy Anne Goode b. 1760 m. William Marshall b.1757 of Mecklenburg County, VA. His grandparents were Alexander Marshall and Elizabeth Worsham of Henrico and Chesterfield County, VA. Although I suspect the Mecklenburg/Henrico Marshalls and the Henry County Marshalls are related somehow, the above mentioned marriage does tie them together. 3. Hi Pam, Someone else happen to ask me today if their was any similar book available for the War of 1812. I hope you do not mind that I copied and am pasting my reply to her here for you. Maybe this will be of help to you. See below. Happy Hunting, Judi I do my research at the Ft. Wayne, IN Public Library. They are now the second in U.S. for genealogy, there collection covers whole U.S., plus other countries (England, Ireland, Scotland, etc.). I am sending you the URL so you can go to their catalog collection (this covers books on the shelves only, not their microfilms). You can search by title, author or subject. When it comes up, look to the left column under seaarch and click on Catalog. Example, if you are interested in Adams Co., IN., just type this in and click search (it is usually set for words and phrase). To change this click on the little blue arrow after these words and a drop down menu appears to change the search requirement. http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/genealogy/ This will help you with what has been publiched out there and you will then have titles and authors to work with. You may want to save this in favorites for future reference.

    3. Hi Pamela, This is a multi volumed work................the author went through every roll of film and abstracted all the pertinent data from these rev. War Veterans who applied for pensions. I only copied the Marshall's from this work. The author in separate works, did do the War of 1812 pension files, but I didn't copy the Marshall's from them, as yet. Mainly because the ancestor I am interested in Samuel Marshall was born ca. 1750 and age wise could have been in the Rev. War. Happy Hunting, Judi
