    3. The Marshalls in CO are related to those who were and are in IA (Benjamin Marshall went there in 1839) and to the ones in KS and OK. That family came from PA (which I think was originally part of VA) according to what I have. Let me know if you are interested in more info. 1. [MARSHALL] William Colburn Marshall of Maine
    2. Judith Burkhardt
    3. Bio of William Colburn Marshall As found in REPRESENTATIVE MEN OF MAINE A Collection of Biographical Sketches. Prepaired under the direction of Henry Chase Portland, ME. The Lakeside Press, Publisher 1893 WILLlAM COLBURN MARSHALL, the second son of Hon. Thomas and Susan (Colburn) Marshall, was born in Belfast, August 17, 1827. Upon completing his elementary education at Belfast Academy, under the charge of the Rev. George W. Field D., D., now of Bangor. he entered Bowdoin College, where he graduated in 1847 with the highest honors of his class, having the Latin salutatory oration at Commencement. During the three following years he pursued the study of law with the late Hon. Solyrnan Heath and the Hon. Woodbury Davis, subsequently one of the Justices of the Supreme Court, and was admitted to the Bar of Waldo County. In 1850 he emigrated to the West. and became established in his profession at Racine. Wis. Upon the death of his brother, Col. Thomas H. Marshall, of the Seventh Regiment of Maine Volunteers, which occurred in October. 1861 he returned to his native city, where he has since resided, engaged in mercantile and other business. Although Mr. Marshall has never been ambitious of public life, his well-known integrity and sound judgment have repeatedly made him the recipient of both political and civil distinctions. In 1871 he was chosen Mayor of Belfast, with hardly an opposing vote, and was re-elected in 1872 and 1873. During the administration of President Hayes he was appointed Collector of the Customs for the District of Belfast, an appointment which was renewed by President Arthur. A zealous member of the old Whig party until its disruption, he has since been identified with the Republicans. Mr. Marshall has always been devoted to the interests of his Alma Mater. In 1870 he became a member of the Board of Overseers, which position he continues to occupy. He is a careful observer of whatever concerns the college and a faithful counselor among his associates. In personal attributes Mr. Marshall is thoughtful, reflecting, and of scrupulous uprightness. As a citizen he is always prominent in whatever conduces to the public welfare, and several important municipal measures were originated and carried into effect by him. The causes of good morals, of education, and of liberal religion have always found in him a firm advocate. As a public speaker he is logical and convincing, and whatever words come from his lips or from his pen are received with attention. respect. and confidence. He married, in 1859. Miss Lois Rhodes of Cleveland. Ohio. Two of their three children died in early life. The survivor, William R., is the business partner of his father.

    3. Hi, I have hit a brick wall with my family research. I am back to a Wilson Marshall in early 1800's in Pool's Cove, Newfoundland, Canada. I know that his son was born in 1853. There are two family line of Marshalls in Newfoundland that trace back to 1600's but Wilson does not fit into either. Has anyone came across a Wilson Marshall Thanks Moran

    3. I suggest you start with getting birth and death certificates for you father and grandfather, then marriage applications and certificates, then obituaries from the newspapers. Birth certificates list parents names as do most marriage applications. Obituaries are not always correct, are usually mostly correct. After getting those pieces of paper, I'd look at censuses. Remember that local historical societies have helpful members and information. Be careful of what you find online. Always find the info to prove what you find online because that stuff can contain errors. Enjoy the chase!
