James was born in the then British Honduras (now Belize) in 1888 where his father was a timber merchant. He was at school at Dollar in Scotland. He first emigrated to Canada and may have served in the Canadian Artillery in WW1. In 1919 James & Lilian were naturalised as US Citizens. James was known to have worked with Anglo-South American Bank in New York in 1923. And it is possible that he died in New York in September 1962. James seems to be the last of an interesting line of Marshall's within our family. So any info re any descendents would also be welcome. Would your Robert have had a brother, William, that had daughters, Nancy and Mary, "Polly", who would have married brothers Jared and Samuel McDonald in Fauquier County, Virginia in 1795 and 1801 respectively? There was also a brother, William Marshall that migrated to Indiana. >

I can shed some light on Edwin Marshall. He married my Great, Great Grandmother - Mary Jane Burgin on 6th May 1917. His age on the marriage certificate is 29yrs, Mary was 25yrs old. They were married at the Parish Church in Sheffield. His profession is listed as a soldier. The odd thing about the certificate is that the father's names for both Edwin & Mary are not correct. It leads me to believe that either the marriage was not blessed by the parents or the parents could not attend for some reason. Maybe it was a hurried event due to the war - I may never know. Edwin's supposed father listed is Joseph Baxter - File Hard?(can't quite make out the rest). Mary's father listed is William Silverthorpe (deceased) - Labourer. Her real father is Thomas Burgin - believe he passed away 1905, so maybe this was a stand in? I have a photo of Mary Jane from 1917 wearing a broach with Edwin's photo in it - this is what women used to do when their men went to war. The original is in a postcard format (my mother has that) - maybe a copy was given to Edwin whilst he was away at war? I hope this helps you, it's all I know of Edwin. Copyright 2002. pg 12, Children of William Marshall III William IV born ca 1745 George born ca 1747 Rush born ca 1750 Samuel b ca 1751 Elizabeth b. ca 1753 Mary b. ca 1755 Ann b.ca 1757 Sarah b. ca. 1759 The Fathers Will as drawn up in Sept 1771 and probated 5 Mar. 1772 in King Georges Co. VA I'm trying to find the parents of Samuel Marshall, born 1750 in PA and died 1816 in Scioto Co., OH. He married Fannie Hazelrigg. My sons are descended from his daughter Sabina who married Absalom Pyle. I've got quite a bit about his military service and his early settlement of Scioto Co., but not much more. I have this reference from "History of Missouri, Andrew & DeKalb County" (in the biography of W.A. Pyle) "His wife, (Absalom's)Sabina Marshall, also of English descent, and a native of Virginia, was a first cousin of Humphrey Marshall, of Kentucky."
