Martha C. Pickle is on the 1850 census, living in the Bedford County, TN in the household of Jonathan and Penelope Leggitt. Penelope's maiden name was Pickle, so it's a safe bet that Martha is related to her; the questions is, how? There are numerous family trees showing Penelope as the child of Henry & Rachel (Neely) Pickle. I thought Martha could be the child of one of Penelope's brothers, but she is not listed as the child of any of the brothers of the 'right' age, and other children are listed. Is that a rare name? I don't think it's that rare. I am under the impression that all the Pickles of Bedford County are related to each other, and that they came from NC. There are Pickle families in PA, but I don't have any reason to think they are related to mine. > That could be a good place to start. Also, if you are sure about the date > of death you can get the death records from the government. They might have > something there for you to pursue. William died before the state of Kansas required death certificates. I have Martha's dc, but all the parental info is "X Pickle" and "don't know". Do you know if he was ever in the > military? 3. Lyn, have you tried looking under the Pickle surname? Is that a rare name? That could be a good place to start. Also, if you are sure about the date of death you can get the death records from the government. They might have something there for you to pursue. Do you know if he was ever in the military? You could find out a lot from military records. Also, look for land grants in his name or in her name. Until you get more facts about his life, this all pretty much all that I can help you with. Since you know when and where he died, start from there and try to rebuild his life. Good luck Carol Gabriel List Admin

    3. The following is a letter that was sent to someone else I know that also received an email about record destruction in SLC. It turns out the email was a hoax. I would like to say thank you to everyone that helper me out. Have a great day Carol Gabriel List Admin The Genealogical Society of Utah and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are not destroying genealogical records and have no plans to do so. The family group records that were on the 4th floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building have been microfilmed. These microfilm are in the Family History Library and can be loaned to our family history centers worldwide. The books and other materials that were on the 4th floor have been moved to the Family History Library. The library is being renovated and all films, fiche, books and other items will be returned to their proper places when the renovation is finished at the end of this year. Our genealogical records are not being destroyed. If you wish to learn more about the worldwide activities we suggest that you visit the Genealogical Society of Utah Web site at http://www.gensocietyofutah.org/. 3. i'm sure this is not true. i am an LDS and not sure how many in this list are, but i have not seen anything about this at all. if they do move any records, please be assured that they will be handled with extreme care and will not be destroyed. the family history library in SLC is the largest of its kind in the world. almost all records are archived in more than one way so even if something did happen to any original records the data would still be available. i wouldnt worry about this. this is more than likely a hoax. look at all the LDS church has done for genealogy . i dont think we would destroy any records. 3. Janice, you are right about things such as cancer running along genetic lines on our families. While we are documenting our ancestors we should also be doing a medical genealogy at the same time. My Cannon line (my dad's family) all have heart disease. Infact, last year on May 27th my grandfather, my dad's father died with problems due to cardiovascular disease. Then almost a year to the day, this past Thursday, May 20th, one of my grandfather's brothers dropped dead on the sidewalk of a massive heart attack. Knowing what our ancestors died from will be able to help us out in the future. You will be in our prayers Carol Gabriel List Admin ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ms.J.HANCOCK" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 23, 2004 12:15 PM Subject: [MARSHALL] O/T > Hi everyone- > I am Janice Marshall-Hancock and my ancestors were MARSHALL-HAWKINS paternal > side MUSIC-ALEXANDER maternal side. > > This may be off topic, but wanted you all to know that I "may" have lung > cancer. Part of the email I have received reads as follows: It would go a long way if you would file a letter of protest with your request to get copies. "Don't eliminate the Ancestrial File". It has great value to your patrons. Please do not destroy it nor place it out of our reach in the Granite Vault. (Sounds really urgent doesn't it. It is to the ones using it. 3. My William H. Marshall was born in NC in or about 1832, married in TN abt 1854 to Martha C. Pickle, moved to Arkansas, then Illinois, then Kansas where he died 3 Jan 1877. I do not know anything about his parents. Martha lived with a family named Legit (Leggit, Leggitt) but I don't know anything else about her side, so I don't know of any Claggetts in my family. BTW, my dad's mother's maiden name was Palmer.
