    1. Found new info, now need new help.
    2. B.D. Marshall
    3. Hi Listers; I just got back from a vacation in Michigan and spent a day in the Branch County library and Court Clerks office. I now have new information to work from in my road block and am hoping that one of you can help. My gggrandparents, Lewis and Fanny (Clark[e]) Marshall were as far as I could get, but now I have both of their parents and the country they were born in. Lewis' parents were William and Ann (Brooker) Marshall from England. Fanny's parents were Henry and Mary (Blackman) Clark (or Clarke as it is spelled both ways in different records). Also from England. Lewis and Fanny were both born in England and apparently came over with their parents, possibly already married when they came over, but maybe they not. Both Lewis and Fanny had siblings that came over too. All settled in Branch County Michigan, mostly in the Algansee Township area. I have the death record of Lewis and Fanny and the marriage records of several of their children. If any of this works, please let me know. I would really like to find out where they arrived in the US and where they came from. Thanks B.D. Marshall

    2. I'm sorry, I don't believe I have any connection with your family. My Marshalls settled in Maryland and some in DC, caucasian. My older brother and my twin brother and I were all three born in Maryland, near Washington, D.C. My mother was born in Charles Co., Md., and my father in the home where we were born in Prince Georges Co., Md. My Marshall family lived there for a lifetime, after my Mother died, my Father sold the property he had inherited. Catherine Marshall Palmer

    2. Peggy, Thanks for the response. He isn't the man I'm looking for. I am in search for the parents of Lyman B. Marshall, of Cayuga County New York. I started pulling up Marshall's from that area, hoping to make a connection. Abijah isn't Lyman's father. The search goes on. 2. Hi Joe. My ancestor, John Marshall, arrived in Boston in 1635 on the ship Hopewell. He was 14 at the time. Is it possible your Thomas arrived with my John? I don't find a Samuel in my early line. Peggi Marshall Murchison Cohen

    3. My immigrant ancestor, Thomas Marshall, arrived in Boston in 1633/4. His som, Samuel, from whom I descended, moved to Windsor Ct. His grandson, Daniel, one of many children, married a Martha Stearns in the 1740's, and began traveling about 1750, ending in Georgia in 1770/1. In researching my New England ancestry, l gathered that many then moved west to NY, Midwest and elsewhere. If you think you may have any connection to this branch, you can consult Styles' History of Ancient Windsor. If it is I will have the lower part of my lung removed with it. If not, I don't know what they will do. Keep me in your prayers please and thank you all for your prayers and positive thoughts. 2. I think this may be your Joseph Marshall in the 1850 Hardin Co. TN census. Looks like the family moved around a bit. I checked my NC Marshall line for the elder Brice b. about 1795 but did not find anyone with that name. Maybe someone else on the list can identify him in another NC line. 3. I am looking for information on a John and Martha Marshall who were in Comal County, Texas in 1868 and in Caldwell County, Texas by 1872. Their son W. P. (William Perry) was born in Comal County, Texas near New Braunfels in 1868. Their daughter Mattie Lou was born in Lockhart, Caldwell, Texas in 1872. I also know that they had a son James (Jim). Martha may be John's second wife as the story in the family states that William's mom died and he did not like his step mom and ran away from home at 14. Martha married J. A. Sergeant 11/18/1875 in Gonzales County, Texas so I am assuming that John died because in 1880 John and Martha Marshall Sergeant and both family's of children are living with them. Mattie Lou Marshall married her step brother Jasper Sargent in 1888. William married Lena Holly 1898 in Graham, Young, Tx. I am William's gggrand daughter. Other sibs may be Mead, Maud, Mildred (I think that Mildred is Mattie though). Any help on this family would be appreci! ated. Thank you, Pam Truly --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? OK, I'm laughing, because i sort of have already started doing this! As Gregg Bonner put it "If you're a Pickle from Bedford County, you MUST be related to me!" > As for the date of William's death, do you know where he is burried? > There could be historical records for that cemetery and that may also give > you some clues. 3. Lyn, I see that you have a good start with your research. Please keep in mind that my advice is really based on my experience in Canada. I do not have much family in the USA, we are all Canadians. I will try my best to help you figure out who your ancestors are and where they can be found. So you have Martha C. Pickle on the 1850 census, how old was she? If she was very young, you may want to find out who has the church records from the time of her birth (baptismal or dedication certification). That could give you her parents. You can find out who has the records by contacting the present day churches to see who holds the records now. I find that a phone call is usually more productive then a letter or email because they church can't push your request to the back burner when you are on the phone with them. Also, you may want to check with the same churches for a marriage record between Jonathan and Penelope Leggitt. That may shed some light on who Martha's parents may really be. Penelope's first husband may have died, or this could have been Penelope's sister, and Penelope's mother had died, or was too sick to take care of Martha. There are many possibilities. One of the things I like to know when I am focusing on a surname is how many other people in the world have the same name. This gives me a good indication as to how easy finding the records for my ancestors will be over finding a record for someone who might be my ancestor. The link http://www.census.gov/genealogy/www/namesearch.html is statical facts about the US 1990 census. You type in a surname and then the program will tell you how much of the population has the same name. A surname I am working on right now is BIGELOW, it is 0.004% common and ranked 3000th in common names. MARSHALL is much more common, so it has a 0.075% frequency and is ranked 119th in common names. PICKLE however is a very rare name! It is 0.002% in frequency and is ranked 5261 in common names! How do you like those odds! I have looked up the Guild For One Name Studies ( http://www.one-name.org/cgibin/search.cgi?find=pickle ) and no one has started one for Pickle yet, but there could always be someone someday. I know that this will sound like a lot of work, but you might have to start tracing all of the Pickles of Bedford County to find where Martha belongs. Doing all of that extra research could pay in the end because as you say, you could very well be related to all of those Pickles. As for the date of William's death, do you know where he is burried? There could be historical records for that cemetery and that may also give you some clues. As for civil war information, I really don't know. Like I said, my experience is limited to research in Canada. But I will try to find out for you ok. I will also try to find out about the land grants for you as well.
