Hello everyone, I am sorry about taking so long to get on this little problem. I just returned from a short holiday and was unaware that our list was down until I returned. The server that our list is on is off-line with respect to sending and distributing mail. The basic story is that the server had had a hard disk problem earlier in the week, and when the disk was recovered by the system administrators, something else was broken and there followed a chain reaction. Brief information has been posted to the HelpDesk announcements zone, http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ for the information of list subscribers. Over the next while, there will be putting previously sent mail being resent through the digests. This is to ensure that the searchable archives at http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/ are complete, though Rootsweb.com will have to recycle mail back to 29 October. After that Rootsweb.com will be turning mail back on and the queued mail from the past days will be delivered to the server and lists. In other words, we will all be receiving a slow and steady stream of emails shortly of everything that was posted to the list in the past few days. If you have become unsubscribe to the mailing list, then check out the list's archives at: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=MARSHALL Good luck and Happy Hunting Carol Gabriel List Admin

It's spelled Chariton usually. It's interesting that you have a Laura Marshall. That's the name of my Dad's maternal grandmother. She was born in 1855 or 1857 in Des Moines County IA Joan Duane W. Sorry I don't think these families match. Joshua Marshall was born we believe near Cincinnati about 1820. He married Emily McFarland in Canada and ended up living in Will Co Il . He died in the Civil War and his wife and children moved to IA. John Marshall and Rachael Stigall were the parents of Laura Marshall ---my husband's grandmother. We have not been able to find a record of his grandfather in Lucas Co IA. His father once said that they were part Indian and we have always wondered if his grandfather had an Indian heritage. I would like to go to the Chariatan area and search records and cemeteries. Sorry I could not be of help. Morning.. I've forwarded the "Buck Pond" picture which was sent from Laura to me. I received a message that you must add my email address to your 'list' before you can get it. You can remove it again after you get the picture. Shirley
Sorry Marshall list, I didn't mean to confuse. I'm only a "go-between" for Laura. Laura has been researching the Marshalls for a friend. When she made the offer to the Fauquier Co, VA List, I asked permission to post it here. Sorry I mixed you up. Shirley For the picture and permission, please contact Laura: [email protected] (If you have any trouble with the address, let me know, I'll check my notes.) Bye for now.. Marshall on 3 Mar 1849, Thomas had fifteen children--seven sons and eight daughters. I'm wondering if you have the names of all, or most of these sons and daughters. My name is Walt Boswell and I connect to this Marshall family by way of Mary Randolph Keith. At present, I have only the names of five children: (1) Chief Justice John Marshall (m. Mary Willis Ambler), (2) Mary Ann Marshall (m. her cousin Humphrey Marshall), (3) Charlotte (m. Basil Duke), (4) Charles J. Marshall (m. Lucy Pickett), and (5) Susan T. Marshall (m. William McClung). I have pictures of that too. >> __________ Dear Laura, I would really appreciate photos of this too if you could have time to send them. Laura, pleas e-mail me a photo of Buck Pond. Thomas Marshall is my 4th great grandfather and I seem to have "lost him" after they moved to Kentucky. This information is very interesting. Do you have more about them in Kentucky? M. A. Cosgrove

I am a little confused on which e mail address to use requesting a photo of Duck Pond in Kentucky. I would very much like to receive this photograph and ask your permission to use it in my BUFORD book. Thanks much, Fern K. Buford Walker in Colorado
Hi, Fern (and all other Thomas Marshall descendants)-- According to a letter written by Thomas' grandson Edward C. Any help greatly appreciated. He is my DAR patriot. He was one of the Captains whose beginning was the Culpepper Minute Men. Thomas Marshall was also one of the original Minute men. He later was a Colonel and married Mary Randolph Keith of Fauquier County, Virginia. Thomas and Mary were the parents of Charlotte Ashmore Marshall and Basil Duke (Dr.) of Woodford County, Kentucky. Their fourth child was Captain (Navy) Nathaniel Wilson Duke born 1806 and died in July, 1850 who married Mary Ann Rives Pickett Currie on October 3, 1833. Mary was born on the 17th of December 1813 and died February 24, 1847. Mary's parents were James Currie and Caroline Rives Pickett which accounts for all of Mary's names. Captain and Mary Anne are the parents of Basil Wilson Duke of Civil War fame. "General Basil Wilson Duke" rode for the Confederate Army with General John Hunt Morgan. Chief Justice John Marshall was the nephew of my Sarah Marshall who md. Robert Lovell. I would be especially interested in the Thomas Marshall you were talking about being one of the original minutemen. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Since, I'm not a Marshall descendant...I don't subscribe to the Marshall list. Yes, please feel free to forward the message. I will be glad to send the pictures to whomever would like them. The house still looks much as it did when it was built. Still rolling fields around it and it's a working horse farm. Pisgah Church is nearby. Thos. Marshall taught there. It was the first school of higher learning west of the Alleghenies and the forerunner to Transylvania College in Lexington. I have pictures of that too. My friend descends through Humphrey Marshall. I helped her with her DAR papers, which is the reason I have a fair amount of knowledge of the Marshall's. Cheers, Laura

Hello all.. My cousin who has this family Bible, has done somewhat 'hasty' recheck. He says there is only an initial "B" for Presley's name. We have surely made an incorrect assumption. Hence, we have determined that the person who wrote the booklet is surely correct. (As we might expect someone who has researched deeply would know.) I appreciate your tact in the face of my almost insistance his middle name was Benjamin.. when it is surely BOLLING. Presley BOLLING MARSHALL. Thank you for all your information. It continues to be most interesting. Shirley > All my information on this part of the family is from the "booklet" by > Thomas E. Marshall, III.
