    1. English born Marshall, immigrated late 1840's
    2. I believe I have information that may help my brick wall to tumble, I think my William Marshall's Father was born in England and immigrated here just before 1850 with his wife Mary and son Charles. William & Mary are 30 years old and Charles 3 years in the 1850 Delaware 1850 census, all born in England. They had two more children after 1850 in Delaware, Mary born abt. 1852 & my 2 great grandfather William in 1855. Does this ring any bells for anyone? William & Mary are found in the 1870 census with their children Mary & William in Mill Creek Hundred Delaware, he is an Episcopal clergyman. Does anyone know where I might find what church he worked for. I posted earlier to the list: William MARSHALL m. Mary Emma WILLIAMSON both were born in Delaware. William Marshall's parentage in unknown at this time. Mary Emma's parents were: William P. WILLIAMSON m. March 06, 1848, Mary Jane (I believe FRENCH is her maiden name) in New Castle Delaware. Both were born, died & married in Delaware. William P. Williamson's father is unknown at this time. His mother's first name was Susan. Son of William & Mary MARSHALL is: Edwin Pitman Williamson MARSHALL m. 1904, Edith M. KELTY in Philadelphia Edith M. Kelty's parentage: Clement B. KELTY m. September 06, 1876, Catharine BULLOCK in Salem, NJ. Pamela Wright Bucks County, PA. 3. As you have mentioned S.Carolina Marshall's, I will ad to the confusion. My Marshall's first show up in the Society Hill/Kershaw/Pee Dee River area of S. Carolina. I have an Adam Marshall b.1760 (Ireland?)d.1809 SC, who immigrated around 1778+/- to the area to join his older brother (rumored to be a minister). Adam married Muriel Gregg in 1791. Children included John Julian, James, and Henry (maybe a Mary in there to). This is the Marshall line well documented in the Book of Gregg. This Marshall line continues through Florida and mostly ended up in Shreveport, LA. by 1855 +/-. We have never been able to find any references to the mysterious "brother who was a minister", or any immigration records. It seems clear that there were Marshall's in the Kershaw district prior to 1775. -----Original Message----- From: Joseph Marshall [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, April 06, 2005 11:00 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [MARSHALL] Rev. Abraham Marshall Bill, Thanks for the email. I would like a copy of Matthew's will for my records if you're willing to share. Do you have a copy of Ed Cashin's book, The King's Ranger. It has a mentioning of a Captain Joseph Marshall several times and I can't see it being my ancestor Joseph, especially with Daniel's being a close knit family and the story about Rev Daniel and his wife with the British. ( I'll send you some references if you don't.) Also, I have a copy of a land grant to a Daniel Marshall in S C during the 1750's or 60's, and I find it hard to believe it was Rev Daniel's son, in that he always traveled with his family and settled in Columbia County, also. (then Richmond Co.) And there is a family with roots in Putnam Co. that says it is different from Rev Daniel's, even with Rev Daniel's grandson's widow returning to Putnam Co with two small sons after the early death of Rev Daniel's son Rev. Jabez. I can give you these contacts if you don't have them. It would be interesting to get these two families sorted out. I have read someplace that two Marshall Families were in the same area of North Carolina at the same time in the 1750's. Did the other Marshall's in North Carolina come from the Marshall's of Virginia?. As you Know, Rev Daniel came from the Marshall's who landed in Boston in 1633/34. Much is documented about his family between then and his leaving Windsor Ct. about 1750/1. Regards, Joe -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, April 06, 2005 12:11 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MARSHALL] Rev. Abraham Marshall Joe I have Mathew's will dated 1794 in Wilkes County, GA. The area the family was living in became Lincoln County in 1796. The part of Lincoln Co. they were living in was on the southern border. Their boundry was Little River. Abraham actually was recognized in their church minutes and John was in the area from time to time in land transactions. My Mathew, in 1767 stated in his petition for an English Crown Grant that he had been in the Province for 12 years, had a wife and child and wanted land to cultivate. His will of 1794 included wife Rhoda, Sons John, Mathew Jr., James and Dixon. The daughters were Constant, Margaret and Rhoda 2. Actually Mathew, by arriving in St. Pauls Parrish in 1755 was probably the first Marshall family in the area. If you run across any thing that would tie Mathew to Virginia, I would appreciate the information. 3. Bill, Thanks for the lead. I remember seeing a hard copy in the 1960's and have always wanted to get my hand on a hard copy. I'll check it out. 1. RE: [MARSHALL] Rev. Abraham Marshall
    2. Joseph Marshall
    3. Hello Pamm, I am Joe Marshall, a descendant of Joseph Marshall, a younger brother of Rev Abraham Marshall. Abraham was born in Windsor Ct., 1748, I recall, the oldest child of Daniel and Martha Stearns. (Daniel Marshall had an older child, Daniel, Jr. born of his deceased first wife.) Rev Abraham succeeded Rev Daniel as Pastor of Kiokee Baptist Church at the time of Daniels death in 17894. Rev Abraham made several trips back to Connecticut during his lifetime, preaching along the way. Your manuscript is no doubt a copy of one I saw in the 1960's, and wish I had a copy. Rev Abraham and his wife had four children, two surviving childhood. One, Rev Jabez, succeeded Rev Abraham as Pastor of Kiokee upon Abraham's death about 1817 as I recall. Rev Jabez had an illustrious career including a major role in establishing the Southern Baptist Convention in Augusta. Rev Jabez died young, age 30-32 and is buried just behind the pulpit at the old Kiokee Church in Appling, Columbia County, Georgia. As I recall, his widow moved back to Eatonton, Ga to be with her family after Jabez's death. Other descendants of Rev Daniel still live in Columbia County and others have moved to other parts of Georgia, Alabama, La, and Texas and Arkansas, according to some old records. I would really love to get a copy of that manuscript. I remember it as interesting, even entertaining, reading. He had a sense of humor. Among Abrahams distinctions were ordaining the first Negro Baptist Minister, Savannah and I can't remember the date. 2. Rev. Abraham Marshall was the son of Rev. Daniel Marshall. This family migrated from Windsor Conneticutt. The Rev. Daniel was arrested and imprisioned for preaching doctrine other than the Kings church. Daniel formed after the Rev. War a church in Columbia County, Appling GA just after the Rev. War and the name is Kiokee Baptist Church. The church is the oldest in Georgia and still exists. There has been a lot of research done on this family. I wrestled with the family for several years thinking they were my ancestors. The family settled just a few miles from my Marshalls and in the same time period. They both were in St. Pauls Parrish, Province of GA. the area became Wilkes and Columbia counties. The were later were divided into several new Counties. The above data was given from memory. She married Jared McDonald, Jr, 1795 in Fauquier County, Virginia according to John Gott in his book "Early Marriages of Maryland and Virginia". Her father was William Marshall according to that book. Her sister, Mary Ann "Polly" Marshall, married Jared's brother, Samuel McDonald and some of their descendants migrated to southern Indiana. Their brother, William Marshall, (1780-1867) also migrated to Vanderburgh/Posey Counties, Indiana. Is there anyone that knows of this family? Could they be from the Maryland Marshall family? I can't trace them to the Justice John Marshall family. Any help would be appreciated. Marilyn Heckman Frost

It's interesting that your Joshua in Hamilton Co. was fairly close to where my Marshalls were in Scioto, Pike, Jackson Co.
