To Charles Marshall, Gresham. OR My ancestor John Marshall owned a shipyard in Shanghai, China with a cousin named Harrison.John and his wife died in China and were brought back to Brooklyn, NY and buried in Cyprus Hills Cemetery. Family notes say he was shipwrecked while Chief Engineer of the steamship San Francisco. He was given a medal for that disaster.. John Woolsey Marshall was born June 11m 1819 and died June 19, 1862. His wife was Margaret Meserole This is just a little history of the family I might add this family of mine had a habit of using middle names throughout their life. Had you tried that line/ Good luck. Most of my info follows one line through George T. Marshall and his son Thomas Shackleford Marshall, who was my grandfather. There was a long article in the Greenwood SC newspaper back in the 1950's which covered the Marshall family in the area , I have a transcript of that article. A few of the decendants still live in the Ninety Six, Greenwood area and a number of the decendants live around Roanoke, VA. Harvey Wade [email protected]

I have been searching for my birth mother for 12 years. I did not learn that I was adopted until 1994 just before my 51st birthday. Unfortunately, my adoptive mother would only tell me the following before her death in 1996: I was born at Swedish Covenant Hospital on April 29, 1943 (That makes me 62 in a couple of weeks!). It was a private adoption and the attending physician was Dr. Robert Saunders. The attorney who handled the adoption was Paul Brandel. My mother said my birth mother's name was "Elizabeth Marshall". My daughter is an opera singer and my mother said that every time she heard her sing it reminded her of my birth mother because she, too, was a singer. She said the family was English and my birth father was a soldier. I believe she said my birth-Grandfather was a minister but I'm not sure about that fact. I did find a calendar book among my mother's things and it did say that the final papers for my adoption were recorded in May of 1943 in Cook County, IL. That's all I know. I have done some searches. I registered with the "International Soundex Reunion Registry" but I have never had one lead. Over the years I continually look through the "Marshall" registry but have uncovered nothing. When my mother told me I was adopted, the first person I thought of was my birth Mother. I simply wanted to tell her that I had a good life, was happy and healthy and that her grand daughter was a wonderful opera singer. I'm sure the information would be comforting to her. So, if any of you have anyone fitting this description, please reply. Thank you. Joy

I am searching for any info that you may have on my gg grandfather, Jesse W Marshall. He was, I beleive, born @ 1807 in N.C. with his father being born in Virginia. Jesse is shown to have married Nancy Elizabeth Campbell in Rutherford County 8/20/1839. My info also indicates that they had several childrenm Alfred or Alford A, Aveline Destrimony, Nancy Elizabeth, Benjamin, Ruth and Joseph. It looks like the family left N.C. and went first to S.C. where Alfred was born, then to Georgia where the rest were born. I have cencus records from the 1880 Georgia cencus showing the family living in Shoal Creek, White, Ga. in 1880. Also of interest is a record of a William Marshall/ Nancy McDaniel Marriage, also 8/20/1839 in Rutherford co N.C. Were Jesse and William brothers? I know that there are still a few Marshalls living in Rutherford County, do any of you have matching records? I would love to know who exactly Jesse's father and mother were. Any info would be forever appreciated. Best Regards! Jerry Marshall Gwinnett Co. Ga. PS I am awaiting the test results of the Marshall DNA project, will advise what I find.
