I am actively looking for more information on the Marshall family. The James Marshel page is here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mabgenealogy/jmarsh<http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mabgenealogy/jmarsh>... History topics cover the settlement of the area, Constitution, and Whiskey Rebellion. These may be of general interest to those of you with ancestors in western PA prior to about 1800. You don't say, but I'm guessing you are referring to World War II or maybe Korean War era records? Being a Marshall researcher for a very long time, I can tell you that John Marshall is a VERY common name but with all the other unit details you have, you stand a better chance working through someone who has channels into military records. If you grandfather can recall where this man came from (city & state), his age, etc, you stand an even better chance. Of course if you had his actual date of birth, his military service number or his Social Security Number, that would be even better but I doubt you have that. If these military-related channels can't help, you could even try contacting your US Senator's office, tell them your situation and see if they can help. Good luck with your search. I hope you find this man. This is a wonderful you are doing for your grandfather and I wish you the best toward finding your John Marshall. Brent Alfred Marshall Posted: Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - 03:15:37 pm PDT COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE Brent Alfred Marshall, 60, longtime Warden resident, passed away at home Sunday, May 20, 2007, with family by his side. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Warden with Bishop Fred Ruge of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints conducting. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake. Viewing will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 23, from noon until 7 p.m. and Thursday, May 24, from 8 a.m. until noon. Brent was born Oct. 2, 1946, in Rigby, Idaho, to parents Alfred and Norma Marshall. He grew up on an 87-acre farm in Irwin, Idaho, with three brothers Nile, Lyle, Ron and two sisters, Deanna and Lola. The family moved to Warden in 1955, where Brent attended Warden schools until his graduation in 1965. His favorite class in high school was shop where he made a beautiful hope chest for his mother. This began the development of his fine artistic and craftsmanship abilities. He designed and created many custom made products from leather, steel, and wood, making purses, holsters, belts, model airplanes, stoves, and horse harnesses, all of the finest workmanship and quality. Because a price could not be put on the meticulous hours spent, most of his creations were given to appreciative family and friends. Brent was a skilled welder, sheet metal worker and fabricator by trade. He was also a fine mechanic and did flawless auto and body work. He was a hard worker, taking great pride in all that he did. His hobbies included, camping, hunting, fly-fishing, bow-hunting, and doctoring any stray animal, human or otherwise that might be passing through. He loved all kinds of birds and raised pigeons, chickens, pigs, sheep, cattle and six children. He was kind, compassionate and loved by all, especially his grandchildren; as he, himself was a kid at heart. Brent was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Norma Marshall, brothers: Dale, Ron, and Nile Marshall and sister, Deanna Tucker. He is survived by brother, Lyle Marshall of Basin City, sister, Lola Selfridge of Warden, three daughters: Shannon Pierce of Estacada, Ore., Sherry Marshall of Warden, Shanise Brown of Othello; one son, Shane Marshall of Moses Lake, two step-children, Cherri Sanders of Othello, Chad Deines of Tri-cities and seven grandchildren. He owned about 100 acres of hilly ground in Allegheny County, PA. He wanted $500 to be spent on the lot in Homewood Cemetery and $300 on the lot in Robinson Run Cemetery and requested that he he buried at Robinson Run. He directed that four acres of coal be sold from the property of his son Frederick D. Marshall when Frederick moves from the property or dies. >From an unidentified, undated newspaper: "DEATH RECORD. FUNERAL OF R. MARSHALL. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon for Robert Marshall at his residence, Lincoln Avenue extension, Penn Township. He was a member of the Eighth Street Reformed Presbyterian Church. The services will be conducted by the Rev. R. C. Wylie, assisted by the Rev. Dr. R. McKnight of Wilkinsburg, and the Rev. George of Beaver Falls. He will be buried in Homewood Cemetery. "Mr. Marshall was 82 years old and died at his residence last Tuesday. He was born near Stewartstown, County Tyrone, Ireland, and when a young man he came to America. He was the second son of the late Frederick and Margaret Dickson Marshall, who were prominent in North Ireland. Mr. Marshall was the only surviving member of the Marshall-Dickson families, his father, mother and three brothers having died a number of years ago. "The Dickson family was noted for its longevity, Mr. Marshall's mother having celebrated her one hundred and second birthday. His grandfather, Joseph Dickson, was prominent in the United Irishmen movement in 1798, and became a high officer in the army. Although the Dicksons were noted officers in the army, surgeons and physicians, Mr. Marshall turned his attention to contracting and mining. His railroad interests were principally confined to the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis and the Baltimore and Ohio railroads. Among the mines he developed and managed are the Armstrong, Osceola and National Coal mines. He devoted considerable time to the development of the oil fields about Lima, Ohio and McDonald, [PA] where his parents located in 1854. He was a man of wide intellectuality. "Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife, Jane Yourd Marshall, and seven daughters, Mrs. Mary M. Coulson, Mrs. Emma J. Ashworth, Mrs. Letitia E. McDonald, and the Misses Elmira H., Minerva G., Sarah A. and Lillian M. Marshall, and four sons, Archibald J., Robert V., Frederick D. and Benjamin Marshall. There are also ten grandchildren." This obituary was illustrated by Marshall's portrait.] Unidentified and undated newspaper clipping with a photograph with this caption: "The old Marshall homestead near Lincoln road in the Nadine district was recently sold to McKinney Construction company. Eighty-two acres of former farm land will be replaced by new homes, the total number of which will be about 370 when the plan is completed. Three members of the Marshall family live in the old house now, and will remain there during the period of a five-year lease." The accompanying story gives the details: "OLD MARSHALL FARM BOUGHT BY MCKINNEY; PLANS NEW HOMES. Another of the early farms of Penn Township fell before the march of progress recently when the old Marshall homestead in Nadine Park was sold to the McKinney Construction company. "The first known ancestor of the Marshall family to settle here was Samuel Yourd who came to Penn Township from Ireland in 1801. No record of the exact age of the present farm home was located, but it is reliably reported to have been built about 1825 either by Samuel Yourd or his son, Archibald. "Archibald Yourd married Mary Woods, an ancestor of the Woods family now living in the vicinity of the Marshall farm. The names of two of their children, Jane and John Yourd, have been located but there may have been others. John was born in 1829 and Jane in 1837. "In 1854, John Yourd married Mary Clark, and they continued to live for many years either at the existing Marshall home or near to it. Their children were Archibald, who later moved to East Liberty; Harriet Ann [Mrs. George Beltzhoover]; William; Hugh Ellsworth; Elizabeth and James Edward. "According to a record dated 1889, John Yourd still maintained his home in Penn Township and, in addition to being a farmer, was road supervisor for seven years and school director for 11 years. No data telling when the Yourd family moved from the home neighborhood was located. "The farm now takes its name from Jane Yourd's branch of the family. She married Robert Y. [error; no other evidence of a middle initial] Marshall, and continued to live on the farm until her death in 1917. The couple had twelve children, three of whom are still living. They are Elmira, Minerva and Benjamin Marshall, all of whom still reside on the family farm. "According to an agreement with the McKinney company, the Marshalls will retain a five-year lease on their home, although their farm lands will be developed for new homes. According to a statement from McKinney Construction company, 82 acres were purchased from the Marshall family. They comprise about 370 lots on which the firm expects to build an equal number of homes....[describes the proposed development]." Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, PA was incorporated from Wilkins Township in 1887 although it was laid out and settled about 1790. 1. [MARSHALL] Charles & Elizabeth Coy Marshall of Buffalo, NY
    2. CW Marshall
    3. Is anyone researching this family? Charles & Elizabeth were born in England, Charles Marshall in 1827-1830 and Elizabeth Coy in about 1832. They immigrated westward and by 1861 were living in Clifton (near Niagara Falls), Welland County, Ontario, Canada (this may even be where they met and were married). This is where they had most of their children: Clifton Kent, Henry, Elizabeth, and Margaret/Martha. In about 1868 they headed south into the US and by 1870 they were living in Buffalo, New York (Erie County). They had at least one more daughter in the US: Maria/Mary born about 1869 in NY. This family is listed in both the 1870 and 1880 census in Buffalo where Charles worked as a gardener. Elizabeth died in 1892 followed by Charles who died in 1900; both buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo. I would like to find out the names of Charles' siblings and what became of them, in particular if one was named Jonathan (or John), who did he marry and what became of him. BTW, there is another family of what appear to be very prominent Marshalls living in Buffalo about this same general time. An attorney named O.H. Marshall and his sons Charles R. and John D., one a doctor and the other an attorney (I forget which was which). I believe O.H. Marshall was born in Connecticut and as near as I can tell is no relation to this other Marshall family from England by way of Canada. Thanks. Charles Marshall Gresham, Oregon USA

I have a George Marshall, b c 14 Sept 1799 PA, died 5 Jan 1852 Ashland Co, Ohio. Married (before 1829) to an Elizabeth Dalton, b c 1801 England, died 18 April 1873 Ashland Co Ohio. Both buried in Vermillion Cemetary. Family folklore states we are, supposedly, related to Chief Justice John, but like others on this board, I am having difficulty finding some sort of famiy tree of John's descendants or shirt-tail relatives or whatever. I attempted to access the website mentioned in earlier messages, but I cannot get to it. Does anyone have any info on George Marshall? Or for that matter the Dalton in-laws? I am assuming that George may come from southwestern PA, as this is where so many of my family lines seem to come from, but I have not been able to verify anything. Any help greatly appreciated. 2. Hello, I found an Edward Marshall born abt 1827 in England, married to Mary A. on the Alabama 1660 Census. They were in Mobile Ward 5. They had a daughter named Kate who was 10 and born in FL. Mary A. was born in Ireland about 1832. If this is my Edward, his father was George Marshall and the family came to the US on the Constitution in 1826. There was George Marshall, 27, England arrived New York 18/6/1827 from London on the "Constitution" Roll No. M237-10 Mary Marshall, 28, England arrived New York 18/6/1827 from London on the "Constitution" Roll No. M237-10 George Marshall, 5, England arrived New York 18/6/1827 from London on the "Constitution" Roll No. M237-10 Thomas Marshall, 3, England arrived New York 18/6/1827 from London on the "Constitution" Roll No. M237-10 Edward Marshall, 4m, England arrived New York 18/6/1827 from London on the "Constitution" Roll No. M237-10 They settled in St. Johns, North River FL and were on the 1830 Census there. I believe that Mary died of tb, George remarried. Thomas went to Savannah abt 1849 I have never been able to find the others. I believe George, the father, returned to England after 1860.
