Dear Mr. Jude, I may have a solution to your question. I too had found that older Peggy Marcum on the 1860 Floyd Co Ky census with Thomas and Jane Beavers Marcum's family. I couldn't quite place her either. I started looking through my data files and I think I've come up with a solution. William Marcum, s/o Josiah Marcum had married a Lydia Sutherland. They divorced in 1824 and I was told by a decendant that it could have been because William took up with a woman named Margaret Aldridge and openly lived with her. Lydia later married John Wellman Sr. Anyhow, she is in the right age bracket to be this Peggy that is mentioned. Also, It was said by this ancestor, Karen Nelson Marcum, that Margaret Aldridge had two children, a Margaret and a Thomas Marcum that are known, by William Marcum. There were other children but I have no names for them. Daughter Margaret had married William Brewer about 1848 Lawrence Co Ky. She could be your Margaret b. 1817. The reason I'm saying this is because Margaret and William Brewer only had two children; Moses and James Harrison Marcum that I know of. Yes, they were Marcums and Margaret went back to being a Marcum. Karen said that something traumatic must have happened for her to take the Marcum name back for herself and her kids. Karen found a William Brewer who married someone else in Lawrence Co Ky, and she said he must have had a previous family that he never was divorced from or had a previous family along with her own. Needless to say, they separated/divorced. Now, I did have Thomas Marcum under James Marcum and Dicey Chapman. I'm talking about Thomas that married Virginia Jane Beavers. Anyhow, now that I see this and see the connections, I think that I have Virginia Jane and children under the wrong Thomas. I only had 3 years difference in the two, but I also didn't find Thomas who md. Jane after 1880, and I have that Thomas son of William and Margaret Aldridge Marcum died in 1877 Martin Co Ky.
