My ancestor William MUNCY was born abt 1815 VA son of James b. 1790, son of Samuel. William married Margaret/Peggy/Martha? MARCUM b. abt 1817 VA. Does anyone know where their marriage record is? They are listed on the following censuses: 1850 Tazewell Co., VA, 1860 Floyd Co., KY & 1870 Lawrence Co., KY. Also, does anyone know who Margaret's parents were? I believe she is the sister to Thomas MARCUM b. abt. 1830. Thomas and his wife Jane, whose maiden name is unknown, are shown on the 1850 Lawrence Co., KY census. Does anybody know Jane's maiden name? Later, Thomas and his wife are shown on the 1860 Floyd Co., KY census. Included on this census is Peggie Marcum age 75, thus born 1785 in Virginia. It appears that Peggie is the mother of Thomas. If Thomas is the brother of Margaret (Marcum) Muncy, then it appears she was named after her mother, the elder Peggie, which of course is a nick-name for Margaret. Since these families settled in eastern Kentucky I thought it wa! s ! a logical conclusion that they were related to the Josiah Marcum family, but I cannot find a connection. If I could somehow find more information on the elder Peggie b. 1785, I am sure I could solve this mystery. Using her age as a determining factor, this Peggie fits in well as a daughter-in-law of Josiah; however, according to all records I have uncovered thus far, I haven't found where any of Josiah's sons married a woman with the first name Margaret or Peggy. That doesn't mean they didn't. I just haven't uncovered any that have. Since most of the wives of Josiah's sons are known, we can eliminate many as the possible husband of the elder Peggy; however, I have not yet found out who was the wife of Josiah's son Joseph. Is it possible that Peggy was the wife of Joseph? According to the death certificate for Nancy (Muncy) Webb, she was the daughter of William Muncy & Margaret Marcum. I found William & "Peggy" on the 1850 Tazewell Co., VA census showing William age! 3! 5 and his wife Peggy age 23. Their children were: Charlotte, age 8, Jas., age 7 & Thos., age 2. Later I show them on the 1860 Floyd Co. & 1870 Lawrence Co. census'. On the 1880 Martin Co., KY census William is living with his second wife Rebecca. I believe William & Margaret were married possibly in Tazewell Co., Va shortly before their oldest child Charlotte was born in 1842.
