Schuler et al. and 1886-002, Mary Ann Carroll vs. Thomas Carroll. John Markham of Blackthorn, Oxforshire, England had six sons and two daughters: John, Joseph, William, Samuel, Daniel, Richard, Charlotte, Nana. Neither daughter married, and both died ca. 1860. John had at least two sons, Samuel (II) and William (II). Samuel (II) remained in Blackthorn, while William (II) emigrated to the U.S. in 1863. William (II) lived in Belvidere, Boone Co., IL from 1863 to 1898, then moved to Alexandria Co., VA. He married three times, but only had children--four daughters and one son--by his first wife, Emma Rushell, apparently in England. The children included: Sarah Smith (Offord Road, Birmingham, Warwickshire in 1900), Elizabeth Adams (30 All Saints Row, Stackly, Birmingham, Warwickshire in 1900), and Clara Haney (resided about seven miles from Birmingham until her death in 1897-98). Joseph married and lived near the city of Oxford. He and his wife had two children: John and "Mrs. Harris," who emigrated to the U.S. and lived at 205 Queen Street, Alexandria, VA in 1900. William died at the home of his only son, Joseph--presumably in America. Joseph came to the U.S. ca. 1860 and lived in Alexandria Co., VA. Joseph died 1885. Daniel had two children. Richard died in London. He had four children, including Mary Ann, who emigrated and was living in Alexandria, VA by 1871. She married an Irish immigrant, Thomas Carroll of Fairfax Co., at the home of Joseph Markham in Alexandria Co. 8/31/1871. The Carrolls divorced in Alexandria in 1886, and Tom Carroll moved to Norfolk, VA before 1900. Tim Dennee
John Markham of Blackthorn could be a gggguncle of mine born in 1792. I have no details of his wife or offspring but his brothers included: Joseph, William, Samuel, Daniel and Richard and sister Ann (Nana?) plus 8 others, including my ggggrandfather Thomas, although he and 3 others were not of the same mother. Do we know who Samuel the litigant was related to? Presumably Mary Ann Carroll was Richard's daughter. Needless to say, I am interested in further details if available.
