Fri. 15th Sept., I submitted the three families of my gt. gt. grandfather, Thomas Markham of Rose Abbey and said I would send further information in instalments. Some years ago, my researcher in Ireland sent me a copy of a Markham chart beginning 1675 with a Markham whose first name was missing. Through information since gathered, he is now believed to have been William Markham d.c.1724 m.1675 Margaret Bernard d.c.1729, daughter of William Bernard of Carrick and his wife, Mary, surname not known. I shall now list their children and who they married. Later, I will submit their individual charts. 1.Mary b.? m.16-4-1694 John Bowen 2.Bernard b.c.1678 m.17-6-1700 Rebecca Briscoe dau. of Edward of Twining Kelly, Co. Kilkenny - family of 9. 3.John b. ? m.1701 Elizabeth Powell - 1 child known. (John of Ballinacarriga) 4.Captain William b. ? m.1716 Catherine Markham, dau. of James Markham and his wife, Honora - 5 children.- of Ashtown, Kilkenny - all his children predeceased him and he left Ashtown to his brother, Robert of Kinsale, co. Cork. 5.Robert b. ? m.(1)1710 Susanna Winter - 1 son, Noblet. * m.(2)29-3-1714 at St. Multose, Kinsale Rebecca Britton nee Rowley, sister of Sir Hercules Rowley -7 children. 6.George of New Abbey, Clonmel, Tipperary appears to have not married and left New Abbey to his nephew, William, son of Bernard. 7.Query. There was an Edward, not on the chart, at Clonmel around about this time who appears to be from this same family. In this era, a William, George and Edward, brothers, had dealings with land in Kilkenny. *Robert and Rebecca are my ancestors. Quote from "THE CROSSLE PAPERS", National Archives, Dublin.
