Dear Mike from St. Louis, There was a Josiah Marcum/Markham in Lee Co VA and he was b. 1799 or so and he married a Mary Polly Beals. A good bit of his kids and decendants are still in Lee Co Va. But the Josiah that is the basic ancestor of Wayne Co WV Marcums and surrounding was born before that in 1759. But he was thought and is possibly proven to have lived or travelled through Lee Co VA with the possible birth of one of his 1st 2 sons and some court recorts list a Josiah Marcum that is a little too old to be the 1799 Josiah. But there is no proof in definite that it is our Wayne Co Josiah. Also some people here on the list were trying to pinpoint which Chesterfield, Bedford and such Markham could have been Josiah's parents or grandparents. I don't think the jury has come in on that one yet either. Rhoda
