    3. Mye Goodye Cosynes, [Sunday 16-04-00 at 21h00]... Finally the website HTML version of "MM" or "Markham Memorials" (a.k.a. "Markham Marathon") is now complete. Both the Appendix and the Vol. I Index have now been uploaded. This completes this book, and only spelling errors etc. will be made to this book as it stands. Vol. II does NOT have either an Index page/s, or an Appendix. "GM" and "HOTMN" are both only missing the last page for some reason it seems, and will be updated as soon as I receive these pages and placed them into HTML on the website. Yours Sincerely, Sir Ken Markham, K.C.B., (95). [A Phenomenal Researcher In The Mists Of Time] [Genealogist Extra-Ordinaire]

    1. "A PLACE I CALL HOME" --- Josiah Marcum ... ... ...
    2. Ken Markham
    3. Mye Goodye Cosynes, A startling new chapter in "TW" is now in the making !!!. This new chapter now falls under Capt. Columbus' section of "TW", in "A PLACE I CALL HOME". The section here is very new and still requires the write-ups for each picture etc. There should be many many pictures added here in time. Capt. Columbus lives up in the Appalachian Mountains in West Virginia. The purpose of these chapters is to show the areas where Markhams (and particularly early settler Markhams) have settled, their culture (if any), tongue, and way of life. It will also show Markham genealogical information and historical photos of these places, such as graves and monuments etc. "The Wanderer": "A PLACE I CALL HOME": http://members.xoom.com/kenmarkham/menuhtml.html DIRECT LINK: http://members.xoom.com/kenmarkham/colindex.html All photos will be unedited, and taken with a Sony Mavica Digital Camera, at a resolution of 640 x 480 x 16M. This is one of the better digital cameras out at the moment. The same camera is used in my own "TW" chapters too. It can also record MPEG movies up to 1min, and sound, and places all files straight on to a 1.44 stiffy disk. All picture files are saved in JPEG format. Quite nice !!!. One stiffy disk will take about 18 pictures at above resolution. It also uses the colour LCD screen at the back of the camera to point and click for a photo. A great camera if you are looking for one. This section already contains a photo of the headstone of Josiah Marcum's grave. I have requested further pictures to be taken of this site and grave etc. For most of us, whilst many would take such a picture for granted, people like myself, just simply have never seen these pictures, and hopefully the pictorial content of "TW" will be one of its strongest features. These pictures are taken by Markhams for Markhams, and are original and recent. "The Wanderers" will all be given the opportunity at some point to add their own chapter - "A PLACE I CALL HOME". My own chapter can be found here: "The Wanderer": "ENCYCLOPAEDIA iAFRICA - A PLACE I CALL HOME": http://members.xoom.com/kenmarkham/menuhtml.html DIRECT LINK: http://members.xoom.com/kenmarkham/zim/home.html Well, I am glad you have now stopped praying for rain in Africa, maybe you could pray for a better R/$ exchange rate ?. Yours Sincerely, Capt. Columbus & Super Ken... [Phenomenal Researchers In The Mists Of Time]

    2. Ancestry Database http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/3737.htm Description: The American Civil War Research Database is a historic effort to compile and link all available records of common soldiers in the Civil War. This database makes it easier than ever before to find information on ancestors who fought in the Civil War. Historical Data Systems has compiled and linked a wide array of record types including state rosters, pension records, regimental histories, photos, and journals. The genealogical value of this record is immeasurable. More than authoritative names and dates, this database connects researchers with the history their ancestors lived. The collection is divided into four sections, soldier records, regiment records, battle histories, and officer records. This section, the soldier records, may contain any of the following information about an individual soldier: the soldier's name, residence, date of entry, regiments, companies, rank, promotions, transfers, events (such as POW, wounded, etc.) and how and where the soldier exited the military (discharge, desertion, muster out or death). Some states also include in their official records a soldier's birthplace, age at enlistment, occupation and physical description. 1. Markham-WWI Registration
    2. Ancestry Database WWI Civilian Draft Registrations In 1917 and 1918, approximately 24 million men, (98% of men present in America), born between 1873 and 1900 completed draft registration cards. During these two years, three registration days were held in each district where the registrant completed the registration card. Information found on these cards generally included, among other information, birth date, birth location, father's birthplace, and the address of next of kin. This civilian registration is often confused with induction into the military; however, only a small percentage of these men were actually called up for military service. Originally posted to Ancestry.com in January of 1998 and taken from the original draft cards, this database provides information on some of the men registered. This update, part of an ongoing project, adds over 300,000 names to the previously posted database and brings the total number of names provided to 1.2 million. It adds information on registrants from Florida, Mississippi, and South Dakota. NOTE: This database, although providing information on over 5% of all men registered, represents approximately 13% of all counties nationwide. Researchers will find complete coverage of Alaska, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Mississippi, and Nevada and a good representation from Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, New York City, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Vermont. 1. Markham- Jefferson and Wayne cos, Ill Part 2
    2. Report from the Markham/Marcum database of Pamela Hutchison Garrett Markham/Marcum in Jefferson and Wayne counties, Illinois Part 2 5. JAMES9 MARKHAM was born Abt. 1836 in Kentucky. He married ANN P Abt. 1860. Notes for JAMES MARKHAM: I am not clear on who this James Markham bc. 1836 Kentucky, might be. It is likely that he is a brother of the Thomas Markham bc.1845 Ky. Are they related to the Elisha Marcum family out of Sumner co, Tennessee? James and Thomas appear to have been born in Kentucky, after the Elisha Marcum family came to Wayne co, Illinois. The 1880 census of Wayne co, Illinois hints that James and Thomas Markham may have removed from Kentucky to Illinois just after 1860. Were they part of the Marcum family group that left Sumner co, Tn to settle in Allen co, Kentucky? Something to think about. 2. Dear Markham List Friends, I had a number of requests for the report on the Markham/Marcums in Jefferson and Wayne co, Illinois. So, I am sending it through the Markham List Group. It will arrive in three parts. The first report follows, on Elisha Marcum and Sally Keen who married about 1796 in Franklin co, Va--and removed to Sumner co, Tennessee. The next two parts will cover Markham/Marcums who settled in Jefferson and Wayne counties in southern Illinois. My "speculation" is that the Sarah Marcum who appears in the 1840 census of Wayne co, Illinois, is the same as Sally Keen who married Elisha Marcum. And, that she is perhaps the mother of some of the men who appear in Jefferson and Wayne co, Ill. Your comments, questions and corrections are welcome! Thanks Pam Garrett Pamhutgar@aol.com ============================= A Report from the Markham/Marcum database of Pamela Hutchison Garrett 1401 E Hefner Rd Oklahoma City, Ok 73131 Pamhutgar@aol.com Apr 2000 Note that Some of the Information in this report is Speculative. 1. Markhams in Southern Illinois
    2. Dear friends, I have recently corresponded with researcher Kay Markham, in regard to her Bird Markham/Marcum in Illinois. Her query to the Markham List encouraged me to look further into the Markhams (etc) who are in Jefferson and Wayne counties in Illinois. I am convinced that some of these Markham families descend from Elisha Markham and Sally Keen who married about 1796 in Franklin co, Virginia and then removed to Sumner co, Tennessee. Sarah Keen Markham may be the woman who appears in the 1840 census of Wayne co, Illinois. I am not certain. I have prepared a report on the Markhams in Jefferson and Wayne co, Illinois. This includes: 2. i. BIRD MARKHAM, b. Abt. 1818, Tennessee. 3. ii. WILLIAM MARKHAM, b. Abt. 1820, Tennessee; d. of Jefferson co, Illinois. 4. iii. PLEASANT MARKHAM, b. Abt. 1839, Tennessee. 5. iv. JAMES MARKHAM, b. Abt. 1836, Kentucky. 6. v. THOMAS MARKHAM, b. Abt. 1845, Kentucky. 7. vi. SAMUEL MARKHAM, b. Abt. 1847, Kentucky. If anyone would be interested in a copy of this report, I am happy to send it along. If there are several requests, I will send it through the Markham Mail List. If anyone has further information on Elisha Marcum and Sally Keen, I would love to hear from you. I think that some of their descendants may have passed through neighboring Allen co, Kentucky. Any thoughts?? Best to All Pam Garrett
