    3. Dear List Members: I have started a new section on MY WEB PAGES, called The Markhams of Jennings Creek. I am in need of pictures of the early Markhams that lived in that area. I also need pictures of the Jennings Creek area such as Old Houses, Churches, Family Cemeteries, and just the scenery of the Creek Area itself. I hope that the residents of Botetourt County, expecially The Markhams of that area can help me out. If you have any of these type pictures please contact ma at your earliest conveniance. 1. TEXAS MARKHAM MYSTERY
    2. Dusty
    3. When my gr. grfather Richard E. Markham died 22 Dec 1927 in Texarkana, Bowie Co., Texas, his funeral plot was purchased by a "B. Markham" according to Bowie Co. records. We in the family have no knowledge of any Markham having the first name starting with a "B". Does anyone have a "B." Markham living in the surrounding area of Bowie Co. Texas in 1927?? We would really like to solve the mystery of this unknown Markham. dustyc@microgear.net

    1. Marcum obit
    2. Hi all ! While copying obits for the county I ran across this Marcum obit. Not sure where he fits into the Markham/Marcum circle but maybe one of you know. He's not buried in Cass County, but copied him anyway. Just can't resist those Markham/Marcum's. This may be from a branch of the Johnson Co, MO Markham/Marcums. WILLIAM EDWARD MARCUM 91, Adrian, Missouri, died October 20, 1992 at the Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri. He was born in Sedalia, Missouri, August 6, 1901, the son of James William and Violet Ann (Parsons) Marcum. He is survived by a son, Marc and his wife Valerie of Gore, Oklahoma; a daughter Mary and her husband Roland Rittgers of Pacahontas, Iowa and a daughter, Karen and her husband Jerry Clark of Adrian, Missouri; two sisters, Florence Tucker and Violet Kassing of Holden, Missouri; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Claudine Marcum of Fresno, California, Wiburene Marcum of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Anita Strange of Brookfield, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Susie, 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Ed lived most of his early years in the Warrensburg-Holden area. When he and Susie were married in 1940, they made their home in Brookfield, Missouri. In 1951, they moved to a farm in the Buckner-Oak Grove area. Ed loved his farm and the animals on it. He really enjoyed life. He loved rodeos. He was an avid coon hunter before it became difficult to get around. In 1963 he and his famil moved to his brother's farm west of Adrian where he lived until retirement and moved to town. Ed had a terrific sense of humor and loved being with his family and enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was the best daddy that daughter could have. Ed will be greatly missed by many people. He touched a lot of lives during his 91 years. Graveside services were held Saturday, October 24, 1992 at 1:30 p.m. at the Woodside Chapel Cemetery north of Pittsville, Missouri with the Rev Bob Martin officiating. Interment was in the cemetery immediately following the service under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home of Adrian, Missouri. Archie News----October 29, 1992

    1. My Website
    2. This isn't really Markham related, however you will find 1 MARKUM listed in the obit files, so I guess I can tell you about it without feeling like I'm breaking my own rules, plus my grandmother, Minnie Marie (Markham) Jensen. I'd like to invite you to take a look at the website I have developed for my local Historical Society. I'm kind of proud of what we've been doing here and wanted to share it with you. The URL is http://cassmofind.4mg.com The cemetery project that I've been working on for the past 18 months is nearing completion. We are hoping to finish up this fall, especially since I'm expecting another granchild (It's a BOY, this time). Once this is complete, I'm hoping to get back to my own research and start participating in the list again. My apologies for being negligent. My niece is getting married next weekend and things have slowed down because of the wedding. I've used some of this time to do a little of my own research and found out that I miss it dearly. I hope when you look at my website, that you'll be able to see why the cemetery and obit project has been so important to me. I'd be in heaven if Botetourt and Bedford Co, VA would do this. Maybe what we are doing here, will incite other counties to follow suit. Look forward to getting back into the Markham research. Brenda Marble Markham Listowner

    3. Mye Goodye Cosynes, Our Goodye Cosyne, Sir John Markham, [Wales], has added TWO pictures to the chapter in "TW" on "THE CHURCH IN EAST MARKHAM". They are: 1. A large colour picture of the stained-glass window, 2. Close-up of Markham Arms in above stained-glass window. These large images are found by clicking on the website text below the smaller version of the picture here... "CLICK HERE FOR LARGE IMAGE". "The Wanderer Above The Mists": http://members.xoom.com/kenmarkham/ Direct Link To Page: http://members.xoom.com/kenmarkham/churche.html These two pictures are unedited, and are really worthwhile to see. I have always wanted to see a close-up of this whole window and arms, and now we have it. The inscription is there too, as well a clear view of the other arms in this window. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much for the contribution to this webpage. Yours Sincerely, Sir Ken Markham, K.C.B., (95). 3. THE MARKHAM FAMILY DEAD... "The Dance of Death, painted on the wall of the Markham chantry in the church of St. Mary Magdalene in Newark. The grinning corpse warns of the certainty of death even for those most blest with worldly riches, as the man on the right certainly is, with his fashionable clothes and sword, heavy chain, and purse. The chapel was endowed in the early sixteenth century for the recitation of a daily requiem in memory of the Markham family dead." "Oxford Illustrated History of Tudor and Stuart Britain", edited by John Morrill, and published 1996. On page 111, in a discussion of death customs in Britain, it displays a picture of a two panelled painting found in a Newark Church in England. One panel shows a dancing skeleton of sorts, and the other is of a well-dressed Englishman. [Submitted by Pam Garrett.] I can not let this one go... I require, and please, a scan of this page/s at 300dpi, including picture/s and text. I long to see this picture and add it to the "TW" website. I ask all researchers to check your libraries around the world, to get this item scanned and placed on the "TW" website. Yours Sincerely, Sir Ken Markham, K.C.B., (95). 1. MML Members... ... ...
    2. Ken Markham
    3. Mye Goodye Cosynes, On the main menu of "TW", I have opened a new section that is currently named: "MEET THE MARKHAMS". This section is intended for anyone who intends to be on this mail list for a long time, and would like to have a page on this website. This page must be along the lines of a 'Bio', with picture of yourself/family etc., and no more than four pictures on your interests or the place you call home. The text in this page can be as long as you like at this point in time. You may also mention you genealogical line and family history. Markham/Marcum etc. graveyard photos are acceptable too. No external/URLs/links must be given, and email addresses will not be added to the pages. I do not have the time or inclination to update such things, as all researchers can be contacted through the MML. It has been of great interest to me and others I am sure, to view such pages. If you do not have a scanner etc., I will submit a postal address (not my residential address) to you, where you can snail mail photos etc. to me. I will scan them and do the rest for you. So far, in "TW", I have corrected punctuation only, and no written words have been changed from the original texts. I must also point out, that if any problem arises with the content of any page, I can, in most cases, disable the page or entire website within 24hrs if necessary. So far, there has been no problem at all that I am aware of. If you do wish to join us, send your contribution directly to me, including all texts and pictures etc. I will do the HTML format and add the page into the "TW" website. All information contained in these pages should be such that I would not have to chop and change the content too often, once or twice a year at the most. I am also looking to add GEDCOM files, a few only, of large American lines, such as Deacon Daniel etc. I am looking for some-one to compose an essay on Deacon Daniel Markham, etc., John Markham etc., to be added to this website. These texts must be well constructed, and include much information at the top of these trees. I would be interested to see photos of the graves, if they exist, of such persons, to be added in "TW". I will also consider adding any similar information in this section, and one can just send the contribution directly to me. I looking for the British Markham Census Records to be added to this website too... I am looking for more pictures of Markham arms... I need to know more of the origins of the name of Markham in Ireland. One posting that captivated my interest some time ago, was that of "The Markham Dead". I still am looking for the picture and write-up of this article, please... Any scanned pictures must be sent to me in either colour or greyscale, and NOT B&W, and saved in JPG where possible. I am looking for future books to be added to this website, such as the very old Francis Markham book/s, Gervase Markham book/s, etc. I would like to have these in at least two formats, pictorial and HTML/Text... I am looking for digital photographs of the entire stained-glass window in the one Markham church bearing the Markham arms. I require several close-up photos of this Markham arms, and the inscription/s I assume that lies far below on plaque. Yours Sincerely, Sir Ken Markham, K.C.B., (95). 2. Ken Markham
    3. Mye Goodye Cosynes, It is not often that such information comes to light in one's own lifetime. This opportunity affords me to disclose the facts that have been shrouded in mystery. My long sought after bio is now to be found here: "A DAY IN THE LIFE" (P.G.A.): http://members.xoom.com/kenmarkham/sk002.html I am well aware that this is NOT a political forum, and stick my neck out anyway, and sure some-one will try to chop it off. There are, as of this last Friday, 09-June-2000, 841 farms have been taken over by the terrorist Mugabe supporters. This represents, as announced on radio, 500 000 people of the population, mainly being the black farm workers residing on these farms. The population was disarmed about 1980 or so, and one can only protect one's self with a catty or fierce look... I had better stop here... Hmmmnn... It is not just the fact that one must die, but the terrible circumstances surrounding the event... Mugabe's brigadeers are accustomed to cutting off lips, ears, and noses of the husband, and making the wife cook it, and then make the husband eat it. Yip, and you think I am joking... Live and let live... "The Wanderer Above the Mists": http://members.xoom.com/kenmarkham/ Yours Sincerely, Sir Ken Markham, K.C.B., (95). [An Unhappy Researcher In The Mists Of Time]

Actually, I had the right link, but the latest version of UFT somehow decided to put a space in the middle of the URL, so the link on my page didn't work anymore :-( I've updated my web page now. Oh well - after tomorrow it won't matter - on June 4th TMG will release their new program to convert from UFT to TMG. 1. "The Wanderer Above The Mists" or "TW" website ... ... ...
    2. Ken Markham
    3. Mye Goodye Cosynes, There has been some interest in this website recently with the latest reproduction of the Rev. David Frederick Markham's book. I did post a fairly long explanation of this site quite recently, but there seem to be new members wanting to know of the information contained in this website. Feel free to delete this message if this is old news to you. About 3 years ago, Capt. Columbus set this website in motion when he sent me paper copies of 3 Markham books. They were: 1. "A History of the Markham Family", by the Rev. David Frederick Markham. ["HOTMF"]. @116 pages. Currently being reproduced by the very reverend David Markham of NZ. 2. "History of the Markham Family... Northamptonshire", by Christopher Alexander Markham. ["HOTMN"]. @21 pages. 3. "Genealogical Memoranda Relating to the Family of Markham", by Christopher Alexander Markham. ["GM"]. @120 pages. I also purchased a paper copy of another Markham book, on an exchange rate of over 8:1 at the time: 4. "Markham Memorials", by Clements Robert Markham, K.C.B. ["MM"]. In 2 volumes, @577 in total. More recently, a few months ago, another book, a paper copy, was sent to me to be placed on the "TW" website by Beverly Markham: 5. "Geneology of the Markham Family", by Wilbur F. Markham. [GMF]. @15/16? pages. So there are now 5 reproductions of Markham books on this website in at least one format, HTML, and some in Word7 format. Some books have also been placed into a scanned picture version of each original page of the book. If a Word7 version exists of the book, this would be the version to print out on paper, as it contains the best formatting with page breaks etc. Eventually, I hope to have all 3 formats for each book on the website. The are 'MANY' other chapters on the Markham families. The website contains information on ALL lines of this family and surname/s. Recently, Leslie Ashman gave me permission to place her entire website at "TW". It has much info on the US CENSUS RECORDS. This probably consists of more than 300 printed pages: 6. "Markhams of the USA", by Leslie Ashman and members of the MML. There is a section on the Markham arms, with some really great pictures. Great chapters on the Markham churches in England. Oom Victor (Uncle Victor) has a number of chapters on individual Markham persons, and other important chapters relating to Markhams. In my own section, there will also be a vast amount of info one fine day. My 'Markhams of Africa' book, will not be uploaded in its entirety though. It does presently however, have the chapter on the 'Markhams Stores' with quite a few pictures I took myself with the Sony Mavica digital camera. Two local researchers also gave me the content for the chapter on Sir Rufane Shawe Donkin, which pictures of the lighthouse, pyramid, and plates in Port Elizabeth, named after his wife Elizabeth Donkin, nee Markham, descendant of the Archbishop of York. There are also pictures of Rufane and Elizabeth. I intend to add at least one more website to "TW". The main menu alone consists of the following: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- THE WANDERER ABOVE THE MISTS PASTOR COLUMBUS CARL MARCUM: DEDICATION BIOGRAPHY A PLACE I CALL HOME THE MARKHAM COAT OF ARMS THE RIVERS OF BABYLON THE TRIBAL EMBLEMS THE APPOINTED PLACE GENEALOGICAL MEMORANDA RELATING TO THE FAMILY OF MARKHAM HISTORY OF THE MARKHAM FAMILY... JOHN FRANKLYN MARKHAM: A SHORT HISTORY OF BECCA HALL MARKHAM ARMS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In most cases, there are pictures of each of the contributors to this website and short 'Bio'. Some chapters are books, or will be in time to come, such as "ENCYCLOPAEDIA iAFRICA". This will also contain a book (in progress) of ALL the earlier of Rhodesia. I intend to compile a list of every single pioneer of this country. A task I don't think has been done yet. To try and maintain an interest in the site, other information relating to the individuals themselves, the places where they live, and cultures, is also being included. There is much picture content here too. See Capt. Columbus' section of "TW" for a glimpse of the 'Humongous-Columbus-Mobile' (has moonshine store in the background). Future items 'might' include full colour MPEG movie clips of the churches in Markham. I am also keen, even now, to add a section of something to the effect: "Members of the Markham Mailing List". I can add a 'Bio' type of page for any-one that might be interested, with picture and page on yourself, in a similar fashion as has been already set out in "TW". No long or large set of genealogy pages need to accompany this at all, or email address will be added to the page/s, since it takes too much time to keep that type of thing updated. I would also like to receive pictures of other early Markham graves, and close up pictures of each of the arms in the Markham church, and close ups of each of the inscriptions or plaques etc., and a paragraph to accompany each picture. I will consider placing certain historic information on the website, but it is not a place to request specific family line information, the MML is the place for this. I have wanted to add many JavaScript items, but is a problem with many browsers. Read the first page of the website carefully. Let me know directly if you have any problems with the site. The URL is also attached to messages posted to the MML, and can be found there, if you forget it. The website URL recently sent to the MML was incorrectly spelt, and is as follows, as always: "The Wanderer Above The Mists" ("TW"): http://members.xoom.com/kenmarkham/ Yours Sincerely, Sir Ken Markham, K.C.B., (95). 3. I was looking in the 1840 Gallatin Co. Ky Census and I found Alvander Fran. Markham. I have a sneaking feeling this is my same Anderson in 1880. Anderson married Ruth Swango in 1839 in Gallatin Co. and Alvander is listed in the same township as Anderson was later in years. Does anyone recognize Alvander or Anderson? He was born in 1819 in Alabama. His father was born in Va. According to 1880 Census Records this is how Anderson is listed: Anderson Markham 61 Ala Ruth 50 Amie 25 John S. 22 Frankie (step-daughter) 14 Lucinda (granddaughter) 8 William A. (grandson) 6 Noga (granddaughter) 5 Ben. F. 2 The William A. age 5 that is listed is my husbands ggrandfather. If anyone knows of this line please contact me, I have been on this for 3 years and tonight I realized that I may have found Andersons true name. Thanks, Lisa Marcum

    3. Chris, My father-in-law once told me that a lot of the early Markhams were supporters of King George and moved to Canada after the Revolutiionary War. I don't know how he knew that. I do know that his sister did a lot of genealogy work on the family tree. A couple of the names on your posting caught my eye. I can't personally vouch for the accuracy of Aunt Mary's research, but here is what we got from her. William Markham born in England around 1621. Settled in Middleton, Conn. about 1650. He had two wives: Priscilla Graves and Elizabeth Webster. Priscilla's son, Daniel married Elizabeth Whitmore. Their son, Daniel was born in 1673 and married Deborah Meacham -- April 12,1703. Their son, Israel married Ann Spencer - May 10,1733. Their son, Darius married Lucy Alden December 6, 1770. Their son, Israel married Lucinda (Lucina?) Kibbe -- September 3, 1794. Gideon Markham was born to them on March 4,1806. He married Harriet Taylor on June 12, 1836 and died August 5, 1844. In the next generation, Emerson Preston Markham was born on April 20, 1839 and married Mary Jones Phillips on May 22, 1859. Their son, George Phillips Markham was born on June 23, 1861 and Married Vesta Louise McIntyre on May 18, 1886. Their son was my father-in-law, George Emerson Markham, born on April 16, 1904. As I said, I can't vouch for any of this but there might be some overlap between the two families. Obviously, Aunt Mary was only interested in the direct line and didn't do any research on brothers and sisters who weren't in that line. If Israel and Lucina had a son named William Henry Harrison Markham, she didn't make note of it. Her notes say that Israel married Lucina Kibbe, daughter of Capt. Gideon Kibbe, at Long Church, Somers, Conn. That might give you a place to start your search. However, if Aunt Mary's list is correct, Gideon's ancestor was born in England about 1621 -- earlier than your Markhams. Still, the overlap is interesting. Let me know if you turn anything up. I know I haven't posted this in proper genealogical form. I still find that confusing. Marion Markham
