Diannar, we seem to have a lot in common without seeing a match. I have looked at your website and have compared to my files. I have 2 Greenburys and 2 Squires, but the dates are wrong. Bettie
Is there anyway to get information pertaining to people I can use? I subscribed to this site to further my research into the Marcum's of KY and have been bombarded with information that does not help me at all. On the otherhand there have been a few nuggets out there so do not wish to unsubscribe. Is there a Marcum list out there that is more limited in scope? I realize that at some point I will branch out to other countries however at this point I need to research closer to home and within the scope of the 1600's to present. Also, if anyone that is researching the Marcum's of KY would like to contact me for the information that I have I will be more than happy to share. Burma L. David I wish the best- Let me know if I can contribute anything to help get the list active again. I think maybe in the past there were a few who thought they were an authority on all Markham lines and many failed to contribute in fear of being brow beaten . I hope to have the John Markham riddle solved this next year. Charles Markham

Mye Goodye Cosynes, I still think we need a list where we can continue off-topic topics, and keep the Markham Mailing List clean from such postings ?. Doesn't Rootsweb provide for this ?. I think 2 lists are necessary... Sir Ken Markham, K.C.B., (95)... [A Phenomenal Researcher In The Mists Of Time] [Genealogist Extra-Ordinaire]
I have never had much to input to this list but do read most of the mail that comes across it. Basically, it is a good list even though not as active as it once was. A few, get the automatic delete button. To you David Morgan, WELCOME as the new Listowner. To you, Brenda Marble, I say goodbye as the listowner with tears in my eyes. You have been wonderful and tolerated a lot. Hope you will stick around with us as you have so much to add to any group. We love you, and THANKS for a job well done. Doris Lindblad

My fellow Markham Listmembers, It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing to you my resignation as listowner. This list is very dear to me, and to those of you who were here when we first began this list, you know how far we have come, how much information we have shared, how much we have been able to help others and how special you are to me. I have always tried to keep the best interest of this list foremost, but there comes a time when new leadership is needed and I feel that time is now. David Morgan has volunteered to take over as listowner and I would like to ask that you give him the same support that you have given me through the years. He is an experienced listowner and I am confident that he will do his best to run this list as it should be run. I do not send this letter without shedding a few tears. It's hard to give up it up but I am not leaving, only taking upon a new role. Thank you for your support. Thank You Brenda Marble
Dear Markham group.. i have been a member of the list for several years now and last year we did have some of the members bickering about non-genealogy subjects.. and it WAS quite disruptive to the list.. Brenda has always tried her best to keep things on an even keel and to keep us all focused on what we joined the list for in the 1st place... genealogy.. i am sorry to see her go and offer her my best wishes.. she deserves the best. chatty
Brenda, I don't think anyone,,,or at least the majority...of people on this list want you to bow out as list owner. I believe the problem some of us had with your initial post was that we either felt it was being directed towards us personally (for who knew what reason), or that we were being "included" in the very situation we (and you) were trying to avoid. Most of us on the Markham list are here to learn, not fight. :) -Kat- ----- Original Message ----- From: <BMarble@aol.com> To: <MARKHAM-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 16, 2000 6:25 PM Subject: Note from Listowner > Here we go again. Here we go again. I distinctly remember something like this happening last year at this time of year and do recall that it interfered with the joy of the holidays. I get complaints if I say something and complaints if I don't. We are all adults here and we all know the RULES. It's these types of comments that destroy the unity of the list. We had 4 requests for unsubscribes today and that's only counting the one's who e-mailed me directly. If anyone out there does not LIKE the way I manage this list, then it is up for grabs. The annual fee is due at the end of the month and I have to continue to deal with these type of immature e-mails, then I am seriously considering closing the list, which would be a shame for all of us who have worked so hard to maintain it's harmony for the past 4 years. But I am tired of having to deal with this time and time again. It's not worth my time or the sadness that it makes me feel. So, it's up to you. If someone else is interested in taking over, e-mail me personally and if you are someone that I think will handle things appropriately, then I will gladly hand over the reins. Ken, if you want to start your own list and sqabble with people, then please do so, but not on my list, okay? Brenda Marble Listowner

Brenda can not be replaced. She has been a great listowner and has made this a great place to be. When you reply to a message from this list, your post will now go to the list. So make sure that is where you want it to go, before you send it. Offensive humor will not be tolerated. Plus, at all costs, let's avoid discussing the presidential election. Things are getting very bitter and I don't want that on this list. Let's keep it to genealogy. Thanks, Brenda, for all your hard work, and your terrific attitude over these years! Brenda, Shouldn't this message have been sent privately to those folks you felt were creating a problem? Mye Goodye Cosynes, and my Feathered Friend, Thank you Aunty Brenda for taking such a strong grip of the situation. In closing the subject from my side, it is necessary for one to understand what was actually said and meant. >>> Is there any dictionary (to your knowledge) > of Australian slang?.<<< > I no speak umm forked tongue !!!... In Afrikaans, slang, pronounced 'slung', means snake. So if you ask me if I have a dictionary on Australian 'snakes', I do not know, because I am not a snake, and therefore I speak without a forked tongue, as a snake could not. Therefore, I did not insult your Indian race and people, but rather, you have misunderstood me. As a matter of interest, over the last few months, I have been wanting to ask this list if there are any Injun Markhams that would like to contribute to the section on the website "A Place I Call Home". This would be done in the usual fashion, where you could write your 'Bio', have a picture of yourself, a picture of the place you call home (Umm wigwam), a picture of your favourite bow and arrow, and an insight to your culture. Contact me directly if you or any-one else would like to contribute to this section on the "TW" website... Sir Ken Markham, K.C.B., (95)... [A Phenomenal Researcher In The Mists Of Time] [Genealogist Extra-Ordinaire]
Mye Goodye Cosynes, I need to know the following, and is crucial to my research, and seems possible I might connect to a main branch before the end of next year if the information comes to light... 1. How many Sir Frederick Markhams are there ?. 2. The Sir Frederick Markham, of the Sir Frederick Markham school in England, who were his descendants, and can we confirm his parents ?. (Markhams of Northamptonshire.) Sir Ken Markham, K.C.B., (95)... [A Phenomenal Researcher In The Mists Of Time] [Genealogist Extra-Ordinaire]
