I've been studying the article I mentioned yesterday & thought the following extract worth sharing with the Family as a whole:- "Bathgate is an old-world place, King Robert Bruce having given it to his son-in-law Walter, Sixth Steward, as part of his daughter's dowry. Marjory was married in 1315, and had a residence at Bathgate, her husband dying there in 1326." This seems too close to the traditional explanation of our Family surname to be mere coincidence - I imagine that the early Balbardie Marjoribankses must have been well aware of it and woven it over hte years into the Family consciousness.
