Jerry, All this sounds very possible indeed, especially when one considers that the clerk who wrote "Sineland" was an Englishman interpreting a Scottish accent - and possibly a pretty thick one! Whether we can make anything of it, of course, is a different matter, but having just solved a question re the ancestry of our Australian cousins which has been bothering me for seven years I have renewed hope!
