Evidently you were looking at: http://genealogy.org/~green/Mbanks/samuel.html or the duplicate web page: http://millennium.fortunecity.com/byker/362/Mbanks/samuel.html Which says: "15. Home of John Marjoribanks (born 1743) per Snailmail from Cowbrough" But you went on to say, "in 1993", so I guess you clicked on 15 which took you to: http://genealogy.org/~green/Mbanks/cowbrough.html or the duplicate url: http://millennium.fortunecity.com/byker/362/Mbanks/cowbrough.html The the letter says 83 not 1993. >Would you by chance have an address where I could >write to him, or have some means of asking him to >write to me? The only address I used for him was: John G. Cowbrough, joiner & undertaker Green Oak Thornhill Stirling FK8 3PP Scotland, UK Thornhill is the town (as shown on the maps linked at the bottom of the above urls). Stirling is a nearby pre-1975 county name, but Thornhill was not in Stirling County. Thornhill was in Perth County prior to May 1975. Now Thornhill is in Central Region now that the counties are gone. I know England's counties are divided into boroughs now. I think Scotland's Regions are divided into districts now. Perhaps Stirling is the district that Thornhill is in. My sole knowledge of districts comes from an entry (in my 1979 Encyclopedia Britannica) titled: "Kyle and Carrick, district, Strathclyde region ...". From merely that I concluded that Scotland's regions were divided into districts & from that I decided tonight that Stirling might be a district of Central Region. Marjoribanks List, can you tell me if Regions are divided into districts now? Green Oak is the name of his house. I remember his house was just across the street from Thornhill church. I find that street is called Main Street so you might add Main St. under the house name. You might also write on the next line "across street from church". I like house numbers, but don't have his house number. >The name is fairly rare, and I am one of several >people on an international project whose premise is >that all those who bear the Coubrough/Cowbrough >surname are connected somewhere along the way. He last wrote me 1 Oct. 1983 & I last wrote him 19 Dec 1983. Nothing further has been sent or received. I understand you gave me the url to pass on to him to aid me in protecting his privacy, but I am a freedom of information person, not a right to privacy person. If he has moved, I hope the current resident of the house can tell you where to contact his Cowbrough kin. I always thought that was one of the oddest surnames -- more odd than Marjoribanks. If I find my Marjoribanks folder, I will try to put the original letter on the web so you can see the signature. His hand was hard to read so I was not sure of his surname. But don't look for the letter on the web any time soon. I have been looking for my folder for a month now. >Thank you. >Myrna J. Coubrough >myrna@coubrough.com -- James W.
