    1. [Marjoribanks] Re the family tree
    2. Robert Marjoribanks
    3. Christopher: Dear Christopher: I was delighted to hear from another kinsman and we would like to help you find your place in the family tree. It¹s true that George Marjoribanks was captured by the English in the Jacobite uprising of 1715 and was transported to Virginia in the following year. On arriving in America, for whatever reason, perhaps just as a matter of convenience, he changed the spelling of his name to Marchbanks (which is the way my own name is pronounced.) Most of the Marchbankses in America are descended from this man. As you say, the names Marjoribanks and Marchbanks are ³as one.² I am not sure where you live. Some of your remarks make it seem that you live in Britain. If that is the case, you are not likely a descendant of George Marjoribanks, the Jacobite rebel, but the name has been spelled Marchbanks by many people in Britain since at least the 18th century. If you would let me know anything you may have learned about your own ancestors, we will see if we can find where you fit in. Robert Marjoribanks Honorary Secretary, The Marjoribanks Family
