Hi James, You asked me what was PML and how it works . . . .well, if you are a contributor to rootsweb in one of the upper categories (I'm not sure of how high the amount needs to be, but the listmaster should know) you are entitled to a new service of Rootsweb called "Personal Mail List". You can register the names you are interested in and when any of these names appear on ANY of the roots mail lists, you are notified and receive a copy of the e-mail message. The nice part is that you don't have to be subscribed to the list to receive the message. It is a wonderful service and I've had some great hits this way. Try it . . .. I'm sure you'll like it! My original message was" "Althought I'm not subscribed to the MARJORIBANKS list, I do receive notice of postings via PML registration. I know very little of my MARCHBANK line. William MARCHBANK b. ca 1790 married Nancy FRASIER/FRAZER and had 6 children b. between 1812 and 1826. My ancestor, Eleanor was b. in Lancaster Co, PA in 1817. The other children were: Jane, John F., William, Nancy and Hannah. The family was in Jefferson Co, OH by 1820 and William is gone from the census in 1840. Eleanor MARCHBANK married James KIRK in 1843 and they later moved to IA where Eleanor died in 1906." I'm now officially on the MARJORIBANKS list and hope to find some connections to my line. Thanks in advance, Merna McClenathen Goleta, CA

Diane Ehernberger: I was very pleased to hear from you and to know about your New Brunswick roots. I'm sorry I have no information for you about your ancestors. None of the names you mentioned were in our records but I have now added them. As you will have seen in my reply to James Green there are several Marchbank families now living in New Brunswick and many more in Prince Edward Island. I don't think any of them are on our Forward List but I will write to a contact in New Brunswick to see if she has any knowledge ofAdam or his parents. In the meantime I am mailing you some introductory information about the family and the information that we have about the Marchbanks in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. With kind regards, Robert Marjoribanks Honorary Secretary The Marjoribanks Family

Or gazed at the sun into the fading night? You better slow down. Don't dance so fast. Time is short. The music won't last. Do you run through each day On the fly? When you ask "How are you?" Do you hear the reply? When the day is done Do you lie in your bed With the next hundred chores Running through your head? You'd better slow down. Don't dance so fast. Time is short. The music won't last. Ever told your child, We'll do it tomorrow? And in your haste, Not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch, Let a good friendship die Cause you never had time To call and say "Hi"? You'd better slow down. Don't dance so fast. Time is short. The music won't last. When you run so fast to get somewhere You miss half the fun of getting there. When you worry and hurry through your day, It is like an unopened gift.... Thrown away. Life is not a race. Do take it slower Hear the music Before the song is over. Andy Davis, Today MESSEAR tells me that on 18 Jun 2000 you posted Marchbank as one of your surnames in a roll call on CAN-NB-KINGS-L@rootsweb.com. Checking John Fuller's list of lists, I see that is CAN-NB-KINGS (Kings County, New Brunswick). Are your MARCHBANKs from NB? Checking the lineages files of our subscribers, I do not find a subscriber (past or current) from NB or having NB in their line. You would be the 1st with a Marchbank line from NB (if you send me your MARCHBANK line & it goes back through NB). The lineages are linked from: http://genealogy.org/~green/Mbanks/linesmar.html duplicated at: http://millennium.fortunecity.com/byker/362/Mbanks/linesmar.html FortuneCity was down yesterday. It is for these down times that I have duplicated the web pages on 2 sites. Our chief (Andrew Marjoribanks of that Ilk) is subscribed as well as several researchers who are interested in finding every line of Marchbank/s, Marshbank/s, Marjoribanks. I hope you subscribe & write the list. The instructions are the same as for CAN-NB-KINGS-L@rootsweb.com since both lists are at RootsWeb. -- James W. Roger: Cambridge Biographical Dictionary: "Mackintosh, William (1662-1743) Scottish Jacobite of Borlum, Inverness-shire. He held a command in the 1715 Rising and led his force south to join the English rebels. He was captured and imprisoned, but escaped from Newgate in 1716. Back in Scotland he took part in the abortive 1719 rising but was captured again and died after a long captivity in Ediburgh Castle. He was an early arboriculturalist." Obviously he should have stayed in the tree business. Best regards, Bob Marjoribanks
James, It just doesn't look like a Scottish surname - or placename! Though I expect I can be proved wrong. Roger
Jerry & Bob, Thanks - will add it to the files & carry on when the exams are done - a tedious process which is slowly getting up to speed. Roger

The closest thing I find in my atlases' indexes is Boreland on Dryfe Water in D&G Region which is no where near Clan Chattan. I bet Borlum is in my 3 mile atlas of UK. Roger: You say in your message of 6/19 that George "might have been picked up by Borlum (I don't really believe this name!)" In the novel, "Preston Fight" which I referred to earlier, the author has the Scottish nobles, at the invitation of the Earl of Mar, organizing secretly at Braemar. It is agreed that Brigadier Mackintosh, laird of Borlum, will have charge of a regiment composed of six or seven hundred men of Clan Chattan. Best regards, Bob Marjoribanks
Jerry, As you know, all bits and pieces have to be gathered in case they turn out to be useful! I came across, but didn't have time to do more than skim, a fairly detailed history of the 15 at Kew; some time a bit later this year I'll go back and read it seriously; it looks as if George may have been picked up by Borlum (I don't really believe this name!) after his retreat from Edinburgh.
