Author: michel_marion_221 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.marion/727.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In the French Regime you often would have both a Contract thru a Notary (François Genaple de Bellefonds) AND a Religious Ceremony. Since the 1500s in the French Regime, by Law, the Church Records (any denominations) were used as well as Civil Records. The Marriage Contract would mostly states who owns what before and after .. and is only valid when the Religious/Civil Ceremony is performed. The issues is that I have seen so many people stating that Nov 12th 1693 is the Marriage ...but the contract could be made months before the actual event. So I would love to confirm by seeing the actual Parrish Entries the actual date .. and location of this marriage. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I just went page per page thru the entries from 1690 to 1693 and found no entries for it ..BUT back then, often missionaries with their own logs were making the original entries ..then transposing into the official record at a later date. === PS Message for Lynn Marion .. I can somewhat read Latin (New-France Parrish entries prior to 1690) if ever you need help.
