An Associated press article by Anick Jesdanum appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, among others, the last few days, discussing the fact that archivists can't rely on digital storage because technology is changing so quickly that older formats can't be read by newer programs. This includes digital photography, which can lose details as it's converted from one format to another. A serious consideration for those of us who are storing all our genealogical information in various computer programs such as FTM, which may not be readable by our children's computers!
