As announced at our last General Meeting, the Society is placing an altar in the Day of the Dead special event happening this Saturday, Nov. 3. Wanting to not only share in this great tradition of the Hispanic Community, we also want to take this opportunity to manifest a somewhat different aspect of who we are as a civic organization in this place and time. I think it is an honorable thing to put some focus on the spiritual side of what we do and what we spend time promoting and embracing - our ancestors, and our families in general. Altars are being erected by all sorts of community groups and indiiduals. It should be quite a show. The event takes place at the Pickleweed Community Center in San Rafael (sorry, I don't have the address). Here are the details of the event itself: 4:00 - 9:00 Community Celebration 4:00 - 5:30 Family Arts 6:00 Procession through Canal Neighberhood Performances : 5:00 Ballet Folklorico 6:00 - 7:15 Aztec Drum and Dance 7:30 Aventura Nortena music and outdoor dancing There will be traditional refreshments. Hope to see you there. Adios, Carl Black President MCGS
