McNamara of San Anselmo, a two-term member of the Pacific Stock Exchange's board of governors. Mr. McNamara, a member and trader on the San Francisco exchange for 22 years, died Sunday of brain cancer. He was 46. Mr. McNamara was senior vice president of Spear, Leeds and Kellogg, the parent company of Goldberg Securities in San Francisco. He joined the Pacific Exchange in 1979 and later served two terms on its board of governors. "It was an honor to know him," said Philip D. DeFeo, chairman and chief executive of the Pacific Exchange. "The length or the nature of the formal professional service, however, cannot measure Larry's most meaningful contributions to the Exchange. "We will remember his strength of character; his willingness to advance the interests of others ahead of his own; his calm, quiet leadership; and his grace and dignity. "He was a true gentleman." Mr. McNamara is survived by his wife of 16 years, Liz, and daughters Stephanie and Julia. He also is survived by his parents, Madelon and Tom McNamara of Fair Oaks; and a sister, Joan Pace of Des Moines, Iowa. Born in Oakland, Mr. McNamara grew up in Danville and later St. Louis before returning to the Bay Area to attend St. Mary's College in Moraga. He graduated from St. Mary's in 1977 and received his master's degree in business administration from Santa Clara University in 1979. Today's memorial service was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at St. Anselm Church, 97 Shady Lane, San Anselmo. Donations in his memory may be made to the Brain Tumor Research Center at the University of California at San Francisco, or to the Hospice of Marin.
