Contest winners will receive a variety of prizes in three categories (gr. 2-3; 4-5;6-8), have their essays printed in the local news and on the web. High school students will then videotape the winners reading their own essays aloud as a teaching/promotional tool to be used in the future. In sponsoring this contest, it is the goal of the Marin County Genealogical Society to help families stop for a moment to think about and value what makes them special and unique people. We hope that in sharing stories of family pride, tradition and accomplishment with their children, the children will in turn feel better about who they are and better understand why they are special in this world. Contest packet includes a Contest Title Page and Parent Permission Sign-off; a letter for parents and students to read together, sample pedigree and family group charts, sample family history interview questions and a copy of the rubric Contest Judges will use to score winning essays.
