Dear Members of the Marin County Genealogical Society: At last count we have a total of 253 CDs in our library. The List has been posted on our web site for a few years, as well as a book with the list and information regarding the CD Rom Library available at every General Meeting. As the collection has grown, it had been decided it was not practical or advisable to circulate the entire collection at each and every meeting: General, Computer Interest Group, Special Meetings. What was once 15 pounds is now 65 pounds. Since inception, the library has been available for pickup and exchange 24/7/365 by calling or emailing the Librarian. Can't beat those hours! We have been fortunate to be able to take them home and use them. Had we a permanent Library, Broderbund and Palladium would not have agreed to have the disks circulate as they do. Once we get a permanent Library space with set up to view the CDs, per my original agreement with Broderbund, they will no longer be able to circulate. Many of the disks with a lower number series are to be accessed using DOS. We have had no donations in addition to the titles listed. Duplicate titles are not listed, nor are the copies of the FTM Viewer, which is now downloadable via Everton's site, last I heard. In reviewing my email box, the most current request I find for any information or contact re the CD Rom Libary was on 8/27/01. Tomorrow will mark 10 months of no requests. If you folks are not using CDs for your research, what are you using? Are these no longer of practical value to you in your Genealogy? The Society could use input on this subject. In closing, I would like to thank Jo Larin for all the work she did over the years as Assistant Librarian. Especially the extra effort she put in while I was President of the Society. And I would like to thank Al Larin for all the help he gave Jo and especially sharing of his wife's time while she busied herself making all the new jackets for the CDs.
