Dear Listmembers: For years now I have received, either in the US Mail at my place of employment, or now via email, clandestine solicitations to help some "poor victim" of African Government abuse by giving them my bank account information so they can park their millions in my account. Yah, right! The intent is to get you to give them your information so they can drain YOUR account. One of my fellow listmembers from another list contacted me a while back to see if I knew where this scam should be reported. Since that time we have exchanged copies of the messages we have received. Some are pretty funny. I have been solicited as a Church -- which y'all know I am not! The letters are addressed "Dear Sir " or "My Lordship" -- which y'all know I am not! The English is attrocious. The stories don't hold together. But unfortunately some folk are taken in by it. This week I have gotten an especially large quantity of these letters one after another. So, this morning I thought I would search the net a bit to see what was out there about them. One of the best sites I found is very current [9/16/02]and the guy who received their solicitation is corresponding with them and posting the resulting email to the Internet. It has been quite amusing to read the interchange. It also lets you be aware of what the next step is when some unsuspecting soul actually replies to the mail! EKWUEME Ph.D,FNSE,mni NIGERIA NATIONAL PETROLEUM COPORATION - Dr. Ahmed Tijani, a Director General in the Federal Ministry of Mines & Power (FMMP) - Dr Joe Abu, ENGR MBANEFO OGIDI, top officials from the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing,(FMWH),Federal Ministry of Finance and the Presidency, making up the Contract Review Panel (CRP) set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria to review contracts awarded by the past military administration - DR. KINGSLEY UZOR, Director General, Fed. Min. Finance. Lagos, Nigeria This morning's mail brought yet another of these messages, only this time it had an attachement called "bomb2.txt". This is a first. The attachment was a list of email addresses the message was probably sent to. I found mine on the list. I did not see any of yours listed.
